Just tried to watch stormsy as my nephew sent it to me.... dear lord, is that whats called actual music now?! I couldn't understand a word he said... is that the queens English he was speaking!? It was just a noise to me though I'm maybe missing the bigger picture here.... Labour don't seem too fussed about his history of homophobic Tweets either.

Just finishing watching Hot Chips set on the Iplayer, brilliant as ever, worth a watch. One of the most reliable bands on the circuit. Both in terms of live performances and records, rarely disappoint. Unfortunately for them, they hit when they weren’t young or good looking enough, otherwise they’d be massive

Stormzy was fucking immense and anyone who says otherwise is clearly a colossal dog rapist. (Lizzo was great too.)

Just watching The Cure. Look a bit silly now as fat old men dressed as goths but sound absolutely brilliant. Better than a lot of the dross that's been on.

Gotta love the Oatcake, where something can only be wank or amazing but nothing in between.
Don't ever change.

Sadly never to be repeated. I love the oft-repeated 'it was better in my day and all new music is shit' rhetoric that gets trotted out on music-based threads. Of course, it's a bollocks argument and different generations have been saying it since time immemorial. Every generation thinks that their generation's music represented a 'golden age' - it's just how people's reception of popular culture works. The sad part about it though is those who adhere to such narrow parameters and disregard anything that doesn't fit into their imagined 'golden age' are missing out on a plethora of new, exciting, boundary pushing music on a grand scale.

Tune after tune Proper headliners The Cure were fucking brilliant also. I bet there's a few on here who are disappointed that the didn't do 'Killing An Arab' though. (Just because Stormzy isn't aimed at you doesn't mean he's wank btw...he's not exactly aimed at me as a 37 year old white male from a shit northern-ish town but I'm not churlish enough to dismiss it outright because it doesn't fit my pre-ordained ideas of what I know I like.)

I see your point it’s a damn shame public enemy were not headlining in 92 I fucking buzz off Public Enemy but saw them supporting The Stone Roses at the Ethiad in 2016 and they were shit. To say I was disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it. De La Soul on the other hand were fucking boss, despite the 30 years that had passed since their heyday when I saw them a couple of years ago.

I agree that there is a lot of exciting and ground breaking music out there but there is also a shit load of formulaic dross. The period from the 60s to the 2000s produced more talent, musicianship, inovatiion diversity and music of a lasting quality than, imo, we'll see again. I'm not saying there wasn't dross around then but there was a hell of a lot more to get excited about. Imo.

I disagree mate.
There was (and will most likely always be) an equal amount of nondescript flotsam to 'legitimate, lasting music', no matter what genre or era.

Overall i enjoyed the event, the year rest has improved the appetite.
As said before enjoyed the odd new act in short bursts but talent as ever will come through at all level and genre's, like last night new to me Janelle Monea performed well as i switched between a great Cure set surprisingly and her. Kylie performed her set and commanded the stage well as which JJ could learn from.
