London Road Oatcakes in Stoke, 50yds from The Commercial. Beautifully thin and textured. They have the proper Oatcake taste that I remember as a sprat....and good enough to eat on their own - the true test proof a decent oatcake. That's my local oatcake shop, definitely the best oatcakes in the Potteries.

I've only ever had oatcakes that I made myself (made them thin, not thick) from a recipe found on the web. I tried mine with diced up country ham and cheese as well as with butter and jam. Both ways were pretty damn good, so I can only imagine the ones in the Potteries are insane.

I've had them from there, all be it about 4yrs ago & they were not thin & were pasty coloured. What's changed...

Can you or would you freeze Oatcakes. I have been doing this for some time, but a bloke I know a Stokie exile from Longton says this is sacrilege. ?? Been freezing em for years mate, taste fine, can 'split' if you don't eat em within a couple of days of defrosting tho. Beverly Drive Bentilee are the best I've had, folk that run it are right miserable buggers tho. Same here just trying to keep the post going. I now live in mid Staffs so no oatcake shops around here, but can buy them in Tesco. I am sure they are not as good as fresh from a shop but better than nothing. Bacon, cheese and tin tomatoes at least twice a week.

I used to get the same ones from Sainsburys in Pompey years ago, did the job

If you ever find yourself in the West Country via rail then there is an oatcake van based at Worle Parkway station (near Weston super Mare) that does lovely staffs oatcakes.

What toppings does he do... It's a great van, been there a few years now. Think it's the usual stuff but I've always gone for a sausage, bacon and cheese double oatcake for £1.80. It's run by a chap called Steve who's from Stoke.

The best oatcakes ever were made in Gritvyken South Georgia by a Stokie Chef who was serving with a small detachment of Royal Marines there in 1990. I was marine engineer of patrol vessel that visited them from the Falklands every three week to resupply and take mail. When alongside at King Edwards Point he would invite me, as a fellow Stokie, for their Sunday Brunch with home made oatcakes. Probably the most southerly oatcakes ever made.
