Got to say a massive congrats to Eddie Hall. Dissapointed to see he is retiring now after his first win but understandable given what he has put his body through to gain that title. Seen him down the Cherry Tree in Castle a few times and to be fair although I dont know him at all, he comes across as a right arrogant lad strutting about the place like he owns it.

Well done Eddie. Great accomplishment. He'd still shit himself though, if I got on the Sambucas!

I watched a documentary on Netflix about him a week ago. Wasn't aware WSM was going on but this doc must've been a few years old as he came 6th?
The dedication and sacrifices he's made to achieve this are unimaginable. Yes he's a bit of an arrogant knobhead but that doesn't take away from the achievement, and he's also got some likeable traits. His decision to retire immediately after achieving his dream is a sensible one. Hopefully he can do a few chat-shows and whatnot and reap the financial rewards he deserves.

He was on come dine with me a few years back, he came across as fairly level headed in my opinion, seen him a few times in tesco trent vale and again came across as no airs or graces, stopping to chat to people. This is one of the biggest problems with attitudes in stoke, this guy will bring lot of publicity to this area and straightaway its 'always been an arrogant t**t, was a right knob in school', the guy has dedicated his life to achieving this one goal and now done it he has sensibly retired. I hope he reaps all the financial rewards from it to secure a comfortable life for his family and himsen.

Eddie is far from arrogant, he's very humble and likeable, i know more than 1 person who knows him and spoke to him many times. He trains at the hanley gym on bottlelow street strength asylum.

The Netflix documentary is great. To me he comes across like a lot of 'lads' from round here, with an immature sense of humour and constantly being a massive windup merchant. It probably makes him a complete and utter pain in the arse for a lot of his competitors, but I found him quite stupidly amusing and likeable. The best bit of the documentary was at the start when he claims he grew up on the rough mean streets of Stoke, some kind of deprived hell hole that taught him to look after himself, or else. I'm pretty sure he grew up in the Westlands/Clayton area of 'Castle where wet lettuces like me are from.

He does come across as a prick just by how he talks, as someone said- with no airs or graces. But he's a nice guy in real life. I don't train at Strength Asylum but a few mates do- all have nothing but positive things to say.
Bit disappointed he's retired from WSM. Given Eddie's determination to win it, I can't understand why he wouldn't want to defend it, at least once. His retiremnemt leaves the door wide open for Thor to take it next year with the big names like Shaw and Big Z getting older.

Imagine Nigel Pearson's chagrin when he celebrated victory prematurely, only to discover he'd misread the name of the competition.
