Good business imo - a capable and versatile squad player He's contracted until he's 35. If he could pass wind, I might be just about ok with it.

Effectively finishes his career at Stoke then.
Good squad player like you said.

I'm not sure what the issue is? He's a good utility player and is deserving of a new deal. However, there are issues with handing out contracts to certain other players (*cough* Glen Johnson *cough*)

Do players stay at Stoke longer than players stay at other clubs?
It's rare we lose players, especially those in and around the match day squad.

hmmmm, I am not convinced. Really think we need fresh blood and by handing out new contracts like Xmas cards to the senior pro's could bite us in the arse.
I actually don't think Cam is a bad player but he has 12 months left, he isn't going anywhere and his stock will only de-value so unsure why the need to offer him new terms. Its players like Ramadan and (ermmm! cant think of anyone else) that we should be tying into long term deals

Butland got a 4 year contract knowing he will never see that out with Stoke, every player gets longer than needed it's the way it works unfortunately.

He had a year left that took until he's 33. He's getting more injuries as he gets older (as you'd expect) and relies on athleticism, which for an aging player is a worry. He's also a crap footballer.

He is a useful squad player but the overall age of the group is a big worry , we looked way off the pace last season in lots of games

Giving him the extra year to 2019 would have been ample surely?
Contracting him up to 35 seems like overkill and pretty risky.
Let's see how many more of the 2018 lot get extended as we're seemingly on to them now.......
2018 Adam Johnson Whelan Haugaard Walters Shawcross Diouf Wollscheid Crouch Bardsley (Ireland)
2019 Afellay Muniesa Joselu Grant
2020 Arnautovic Pieters Shaqiri Bojan Sobhi Cameron
2021 Imbula Allen Butland
2022 Berahino

How old is Ibrahimovic? How old is Totti? This idea that once you hit 30 your career is over is really out dated. Our knowledge and application of sport science in the modern game means that the longevity of a player's career is greatly enhanced. I wouldn't say he's a fantastic player but he's done well in various roles this season when required.

You are replying to a bloke who is the most negative poster on this board and never puts any positivity to Stoke whatsoever.

I wouldn't say he's a fantastic player but he's done well in various roles this season when required. You've mentioned two absolutely world class footballers. If Cameron could trap and pass consistently I'd be a bit more convinced but he can't. He relies on his athleticism to get him out of holes and going forward that's a worry esepcially as he gets more injuries. He's done well in midfield but he's also highlighted exactly what we actually need in there.

Christ - that's a bit excessive. He's 32 in July. I would agree in some cases, but whatever your opinion on Geoff Cameron as a footballer he's an absolute athlete and probably the fittest player at the club.....

He's a fine athlete, but banking on him retaining that athletic edge for another 3 years into his mid-30s is still a gamble, especially when it's pretty much the only elite quality he offers. I think 2019 would've been fair enough.

Agree it ages the side but I dont think he is in the same bracket as SJW or Whelan Personally I dont find him a bad player -and at 35 he will probably be able to run rings around most 30 year olds
