Unlikely, isn't it after he failed to make any impression - especially at the kind of figure mentioned at the time?
Lashing out around nearly £1.5m on Ameobi and Pearson's loan fee and wages won't go down as Tone's finest hour really, will it?
But, in the grand scheme of things, I don't suppose it matters too much
PEARSON DEAL TO BOOST WAR CHEST March 29th
Stephen Pearson's move to Stoke City could eventually net Derby County £2.5m.
The Scottish international's on-off loan deal was finally completed yesterday morning after a confusing delay.
Derby will receive a loan fee of around £500,000 and any permanent transfer would cost Stoke a further £1.5m plus add ons.
Such a deal would give Derby a hefty profit on Pearson, who arrived from Celtic for £750,000 14 months ago.
The decision to allow the 25-year-old to go out on loan is another clear indication of Paul Jewell's intention to shake up the Rams squad this summer for a serious challenge on the Championship.
Pearson (pictured) is one of nine players currently out on loan and six are with Championship clubs.
"Any money we can save now will go towards helping us come straight back up. It's not going to be hidden away to pay bills, it's going to be used as a springboard to try to get back into the Premier League," Jewell said.
"I gave Stephen the option. I asked him about the move and he wanted to speak to Stoke. It's a good move for Stephen and it's a very good move for us financially.
"There's a transfer fee agreed between the two clubs. If they take him, it's going to rise up to £2.5m.
"Even if Stephen comes back, which he could well do, we have quite a considerable amount of money with the loan fee and the wages we will have saved on him. That money will go back in to strengthening our squad next season.
"The deal is almost a no-loser for us. If we had any chance of staying up, Stephen Pearson wouldn't have gone out on loan."
Pearson was Derby's Wembley hero last May when he hit the winning goal in the play-off final victory over West Bromwich Albion to book a place in the Premier League.
He has also been a regular in the side this season.
But Jewell has defended his decision to let the player join Stoke.
"Stephen's a decent player but I have to make these decisions for the long-term benefit of the club," he said.
"Whoever I sold, you are never going to satisfy everybody. Somebody is always going to be unhappy."

Send him back to Derby IMO.
Not Premiership, not £2.5m.
Same with Ameobi, thanks but no thanks.

Thought he looked pretty good against sheff weds but from then on he hasn't/hasn't been selected Not worth that sort of money imo but then again, last season Sunderland were paying daft money for average palyers so it may well be the going rate

Discussing this last night, it would seem that it is all dead in the water (which is probably a good thing)
The only good thing about the Ameobi loan is that it potentially gave Mama a big enough kick up the arse to score the two goals against Bristol City

i think the money that pulis spent on the pearson's wage was well worth it as it have cresswell that push he needed and after pearson signed on loan cresswell became a better play and was one of the biggest players for us in the promotion push

whether we sign him or not we - & I mean supporters by this - need to realsie that £2.5m for a prem player is peanuts

I think that anyone who wasn't consistently in the starting 11 in the run-in isn't going to be good enough for us in the premier league. Pearson and Ameobi came in and were good loan signings at the time, but they turned out to be no better than what we already had.
What I do find surprising, though, is the staggering loan fees we paid to their respective clubs, considering neither player is really worth a great deal in the first place! Still, they pushed the likes of Cresswell and Sidibe to find an extra couple of percent, so they did the job,

thats right Creswell especially had been below average for months from Sheff Weds onwards his form picked up markedly

My sentiments exactly Jimbo. Although we expected more from Ameobi & Pearson on the pitch they certainly had an influence on our season. It pushed on players such as Sidibe & Cresswell for those vital last few games.

According to the Derby Evening Telegraph, we "remain interested" in him? www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=132277&command=displayContent&sourceNode=128334&contentPK=20647890&folderPk=78988&pNodeId=126358Stoke remain interested in Pearson, the Scottish international who spent a loan spell with the Potters at the end of the season.
Derby received a loan fee of £500,000 but Stoke, having won promotion to the Premier League, could still return for the 25-year-old in a permanent deal.
Pearson cost the Rams £750,000 when he arrived from Celtic in January 2007 and his one goal in 40 games was the winner in the play-off final victory over West Bromwich Albion a year ago.
But Stoke are not the only club eyeing him. One or two Championship clubs are also showing an interest.

Even in todays inflated market I would not pay more than 1 million for him. I think his best position is centre mid and for me thats not a priority.
