If you were the manager of a top 6 side (who have FAR more pressure put on them by their owners to succeed than clubs like ours do), would you risk your job gambling 15mill or so on your starting goalkeeper when he's been injured for over 12 months and played just 3 games since? Weird how many on here (not necessarily you mate) talk about media links towards the end of the season with players being "Lazy journalism....journos putting 2+2 together to come up with a story....no actual quotes or real official interest" etc. etc. but then see other stuff in the same papers and presume it HAS to be true. It's nearly transfer window time, every journo is slinging every titbit, bit of presumption and made up guff around hoping some of it sticks so 1) they can actually have a story and 2) they can see they reported it first. Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal have all been linked with various English and foreign keepers over the last few weeks (a different one every week it seems...last week Liverpool would compete with Everton for Pickford, yesterday they were defo keeping Mignolet, today 1 paper mentions Jack.....last week Man Utd. were defo losing De Gea and Romero was told he'd step up, a few days ago they were defo buying Oblak, now today 1 paper mentions Jack...yesterday Arsenal ruled out a new keeper, now they might be in for Pickford etc. etc. etc.) so any speculation reported now is just that, speculation and nothing more. I'm guessing that the managers of clubs like those above, didn't get where they were by taking huge gambles on players who have only just come back from a season long injury Let's wait and see, but I'm sure £15M will be far below what we would consider to sell for! I guess around £30M will be closer to what we would accept to let him go for! Yes, I know it's an absurd amount of money, but my guess is that this will be the going rate! More than twice what Neuer went for then...ok!

You do talk some shite. Neymar being a striker and 50 million for Butland. Stick to reading comics lad. Neymar is a striker, i assure you With prices now a days Butland is worth 50M Prices nowadays? When was the last time a goalie cost that exactly? Oh that's right...never! The point he's making is that goalkeepers fees are nothing like outfield players (only Buffon has ever, in history gone for more than 25mill) Prices will be higher nowadays no doubt but not even close to the way that outfield players' fees have skyrocketed.

Anyway, let's just wait and see!

Why are Real reportedly looking at that same keeper for around £35mill-40mill (which would break the current world record fee for a keeper). You're now saying we can ask for more for Jack than Real are looking to pay for De Gea? What the fuck are you smoking mate?

to be fair, there have been loads of links with the top clubs and new goalkeepers in the last few weeks, and i don't think Jack has been top of the menu for any of them has he? Largely due to the fact that he's been out for over a year and only had 3 games back so others (Pickford for example) are the keepers being touted now. It's precisely that reason why a lot of top clubs will wait to see if he is back to full fitness and is back to his best before they take big money gambles IMO. They won't be doing it based on 3 games this season and what he was like over a year ago, far too big a gamble when paying a decent fee. Do you not have the feeling Leslie has selected him ahead of our player of the season to get him some exposure and put him in the spotlight? He could have got a full pre-season and game time next year without any risks. Perhaps this is where our transfer budget is coming from and this is the plan. Said the same thing in a previous thread about holding onto Jack. It all seemed a little too soon to come straight back in like he did. Can only assume that it was to prove he is over his injury and readily available at the right price!

I would happily take 15 mill for Butland and I personally think that fee is pushing it. People wanting 50 million are just bat shit insane.

No. He's our best goalkeeper by a country mile and he was fit again so he plays. It was that simple.

I think about 30mil in the current market but its Scholes so about 12. it's not our money anyway and coates won't let hughes spend all his profits if he makes 40 million from tranfers so i just hope we keep him

Chelsea is the best swap ideally, Begovic +1 of Loftus-Cheek, Kenedy, Todd Kane, Chalobah for Butland. Man City I'd swap Butland for Iheanacho and Delph.

I said on the other thread tgat I get what you're saying but since the fees in England started doubling/trebling there hasn't been a big goalkeeper transfer. courtois cost chelsea 25m before the transfer boom in 2014. although talk of 30m+ is daft, I still think we would get 20-25m in this market.

He's definitely not worth 50 but 15 seems a bit low, doesn't it? Think he's worth around £30mil meself especially considering Sunderland want around 20 for Pickford.

If Chelsea are interested we could ask for Bego, Ake and Traore (if he still is their player?) for Butland! I think I would take such a deal! Or we could get John Terry who would be right at home with the players from his generation that are already here.^

Goalkeepers don't usually go for much, I think Neuer went to Munich for 25-30 mill? 15 mill for Butland is good business. If we're asking for 20million + Then we're pretty much saying he's in the same league as those elite goalkeepers. Which in my opinion is not true.

Have they really though? Still there has only been one keeper that has moved for big money so I don't know where it has doubled or tripled. Even if that were the case, it wouldn't apply to Jack as the best teams in the world wouldn't chalk out the extra cash for him like they would with De Gea. De Gea is a much better keeper than Jack and 30 million with add ons is justified.

If Pickford moves this summer, whatever he fetches, Stoke can add on another £5m at least, if we decide to sell him of course.

I think there is one big difference between Pickford and Butland's situation. Pickford would probably be happy to be an understudy at a big club. Butland would expect the number 1 jersey wherever he goes. However I doubt there would be much difference in the price these pair will eventually go for.

£50M FOR BUTLAND. no less You do talk some shite. Neymar being a striker and 50 million for Butland. Stick to reading comics lad. I think that's taking into account him being young, English, in a position that is vitally important, most of all taking into account the inflated prices. Neymar was untested in Europe too which may have helped.

He has been out for 12 months with a SINGLE injury and due to medical staff missing part of the injury and bodging his 1st lot of surgery had set backs. Hardly injury prone
