Saw a couple of things in the listings that looked worth the effort recently. 'Wheeler dealers'. Doing up cars, seemed reasonable. Despite an East end wide boy called Brewer doing his best to screw it up the worst part was the crash/bash ludicrous electric guitar racket in the background. Unwatchable. Next up, 'How it's made'. Same problem, commentary destroyed by completely over the top sound effects. The same can be said for 'Nazi megastructures'. potentially a good watch again ruined by unnecessary so called mood music. As for some of the Police chase type stuff yet another example of how to wreck 30minutes of viewing. The list it seems is endless.
As for incessant ad breaks, commercial telly going downhill fast. The Americans have got a lot to answer for.

Same thing yes doing up cars , but based in Dallas . I started watching it as I worked there for a few months back in the mid 80s

Where they have to recap what's happened before the break.

Where they have to recap what's happened before the break. With each Ad break being roughly 10 minutes long I'm guessing that they must presume we've all lost the plot and need reminding whereabouts Edd China has got to with his welding.

Totally agree on Wheeler Dealers. I used to love this show and have watched every single episode. Until the last two series that is, when they introduced absurd "background music" so loud I couldn't hear what Ed China was saying and couldn't concentrate on what he was doing. It's a tragedy because this used to be a show which actually taught you about proper car restoration. They did a Citroen DS a few years ago and it was fascinating. I've given up on it now they've dumbed it down.

Caught some of 'Car SOS' they've gone down the same route, intelligent mechanic ably assisted by annoying clown. At least there's no thrash rock continually in the background.
