First of all, let me start by saying; up until yesterday I have defended Mark Hughes quite tirelessly based on the fact that we've had 3 consecutive top half finishes before this one and we were always going to have a rocky season sooner or later. More recently my opinion has changed and after yesterday I can honestly say that I think it's time for him to move on. Not only have we had an abysmal horrible season on paper, recent performances have been completely pedestrian, no fight, no purpose, no urgency, no commitment, our performances are just NOTHING. Arsenal would have had more to think about if we'd put 11 cones out there yesterday.
I honestly can't make my mind up on whether Hughes has lost the dressing room or not, but we're in a position now where something needs to give. We need to make a change and make a change before its to late as we're only going in one direction and it certainly isn't upwards. In my 10+ years as a season ticket holder, I boo'd for the first time at the end of yesterdays game, there should be no hiding place for the players or the manager after what can only be described as a pitiful and disgraceful 'performance'. I wasn't TP's biggest fan (to say the least) but regardless of some of the garbage we had to watch during his reign, one thing we always had was fight and commitment, you would never see players jumping out of 50/50 challenges or lumbering around with their heads in the sand in a grump. I don't think its until recently that this has really set in, understandably we've not strung a good run of results together in over a season but the fight was there, we've just come up short, for whatever reason that might be. (Palace being an exception).
One thing for sure, whoever is manager for next season will need a good transfer kitty to sort out the squad. Regardless of the money we have spent, our squad really isn't that great (maybe another fault of MH). We need a quality Left Back, Right Back and CDM at the top of our shopping list. Maybe a number 10 as well if we don't want to be pinning our hopes on Bojan or Ibi returning to form.
Watching Joe Allen playing as a number 10 is tiresome, he has no ingenuity or creativity at all. Pieters and Johnson are simply not good enough, they looked like league one full backs yesterday or even worse. We need to accept our losses on Imbula, i'm sure theres a player in there somewhere but attitude is way off the mark. Diouf needs to be sold, how he has gotten away with impersonating a premier league footballer for so long I don't know, technically woeful. Glenn Whelan - as much as he has been a brilliant servant for the club we need to be looking at a younger upgrade.
Next season we need to be looking at the following:
Butland
New RB Shawcross BMI New LB Joe Allen New CDM Shaq New10/Boj/Ibi Arni Berahino
A couple of positives for next season. Jack Butland should be back to his best and I'm pretty sure Berahino will be a major coup. Fully expect him to bag 10+ next season.
Keep the faith Stokies, the tide will turn.

Out of the team that took to the field yesterday, the only players I'd push the boat out to definitely keep would be Grant, Butland, Bruno, Arnie and Ramadan.
I wouldn't be overly concerned if everyone else was replaced/moved on.
