Whoever doesn't think we have a massive rebuild task ahead is kidding themselves, we possibly need 2 new central midfielders who don't just sit in front of the defence but have pace, strength and creativity (at least one of them needs creativity). Allen may suffice as one of the central midfielders if he can play or is instructed to play how he did for Wales. We probably need 2 new full backs, certainly one and they need the attributes of modern full backs who have pace, energy and can cross a ball as well as defend.
We need Indi to sign and backup even if Muni stays and we need a number 10 unless Bojan is bought back into the fold and trusted or if Shaq gets a chance in the role, which doesn't seem likely. We also probably need another quality striker as Hughes doesn't seem to trust any of what he has bought and we can't rely on Walters and Crouch to keep plodding on.
It's a hell of a risk to have to change so much in one go but there seems little option seeing how weak we are in these areas: slow, lethargic, ageing and lacking the quality we need in these areas.
It's a huge indictment on the management (in this I mean chairman down to manager) to allow an already ageing squad to become basically geriatric and keep on extending contracts of older players with no succession plan when we have had the means to bring in quality younger players over the last four years to enable an orderly transition and lessen the risks of wholesale changes in one go.
We are not a poor club by any means and are an established premier league club that can compete with all but the best financially due to our owners wealth and TV money. It's time we stop thinking of ourselves as a small club, those time are long past, unless of course, complacency and lack of foresight, investment and ambition means we drop back into the championship.

- Two full backs - A strong, athletic and mobile defensive midfielder - Indi or another centre back of similar stature
Are absolutely essential just for the first 11 in my opinion.
Whelan - great servant for the club but he's now a real weak link for us because he's not mobile enough
Adam - same as Whelan really he's just not mobile enough
Bojan - if Hughes even decides to try and play with a number 10 next season can Bojan fill that role adequately? Recent evidence suggests not.
Allen - He's not a number 10 and never has been, I know he scored some crucial goals for us but it's absolutely shambolic that Allen has been used there recently whilst Bojan is out on loan. Even if he doesn't rate Bojan then Shaqiri has all the required tools to have played in that role and Ramadan could have played out wide. He needs to played deeper alongside a new midfield destroyer.

DIY SOS would struggle to rebuild our squad. We need a good brickie to build a wall behind Jack to protect the goal, and go from there. Surely you mean in front of Jack. If we build the wall behind him we don't need Jack.

It's amazing the difference 1 or 2 additions can make to the balance of the team.
A new LB and box to box/defensive CM has to be the priority.
I'm sure he wants to play variations on a 4-3-3. This was the formation that destroyed Liverpool and the Mancs in 2015.
The plan was for Joe to sit (like Wales), Imbula to go box to box (like Fonzie) and Bojan to be the creative goal scoring attacking midfielder (an upgrade on Ireland or Charlie.) That would leave Shaq, Arnie and Saido up front which looks pretty tasty.
The key signing is the next centre mid - get that right and we're a different team. Either that or go back to Imbula, which to be honest I can't see happening now.

Even without Bojan in the team, we've been weak as piss in midfield for most of this season against the good/above average teams.

Similar to a lot of the previous posters, I think something like this should be our first 11 next season:
Butland New RB (Young, aggressive, pacy) Shawcross Bruno New LB (As per RB)
Ramadan Allen New Midfielder (Delph?) Arnie
Shaq
Saido
I think as first 11, that gives us what we're looking for, and it's got balance.
Bench:
Grant Cameron Sweeney Afellay Crouch Diouf Ngoy
I think Whelan, Walters, Adam, Muniesa, Bardsley should be moved on. Bojan, Joselu, Souter, Johnson & Pieters will give further cover.
Just my opinion, and I could be a mile off!

Add a decent central midfielder then it looks so much better. They need to be much fitter though and a really tough pre season is an absolute must for me. My worry is the manager and the chairman don't seem to think much is wrong.

Central midfield is a bloody mess. Whelan,Adam, Affellay, Cameron, Allen not much pace or creativity there. Very worrying. I think at least 2 have to depart, but we know they won't.

I 've never been a fan of chopping and changing managers, and I truly believe that Hughesy is as frustrated as us fans, even though he has contributed to a flat season. I would hope that MH and many of the players would be honest enough to front up and see that we have badly under performed. Anyway, whats done is done, what's important now is to put it right for next year. And my punt above would, I think work, but lets see what happens this summer
