Anyone else seen this today? All NHS systems across the country have been hacked with ransomware (ie pay us this amount of money or we block your systems) Wonder who is to blame for this? You would have thought NHS computer systems would be next to impossible to hack but it seems not.

That's what you get if you cut back in NHS and government spending on tech hackers find a way in we need a safe and secure tech system across the uk and by going to the cheapest bidder each time is not the answer just think if it was the DSS computers.

Apparently Russia also affected and many European countries. Correct. Just on the news it's affected those running a particular operating system. Ransomware virus?. Apparently hospitals in Scotland are also now affected - originally they said just England. Plus dentists now. It was announced earlier that the hackers have given 3 three days to pay, then the ransom will double. They say if unpaid after a further 3 days the system will be disabled permanently. I don't know if this aspect of the story will be changed or not. Dreadful situation. Unthinkable.

According to reports over 40 have been done and Stoke is one of them. Well they can have my details for nowt. Clone them if you want. Get some unlucky sod to take me over. It won't be long before they're knocking on my door paying me to take me back.

Saying on the BBC that the NHS was not deliberately targeted. They've badly miscalculated if there are several governments after them now.

Will they be able to see my health records No. The problem is that, if they don't pay (or don't manage to crack it), neither will the doctors, nursers or other healthcare professionals.

It won't be long before they're knocking on my door paying me to take me back. As I understand it, it's the actual computer infrastructure that's apparently been 'taken down'. Patient data is not thought to have been accessed. Computer systems in some doctors' surgeries are also affected. Hospitals are asking people not to go to A&E unless it's an emergency.

Will they be able to see my health records No, at this moment in time they are probably only available to the lord. But, providing the NHS IT people have a sufficiently rhobust backup strategy, they will soon be available to everyone with a vested interest, just like before.

Look as computers are one of my hobbies I talk to a few people about systems and safety of them it has always been known that governments not only this one put the computer purchases and software upgrades out to tender on this occasion I wasn't blaming any particular party for doing this they all do it going for the cheapest tender. What has happened since austerity is a cut back on all spending including IT this can leave holes in a defence system for internet security as hackers are always evolving.

What has happened since austerity is a cut back on all spending including IT this can leave holes in a defence system for internet security as hackers are always evolving. I work for one of the worlds largest IT services company, just returned from 4 days in Madrid as Europes IT enterprise zone, I know about the NHS contracts that were issued a few years ago, and the civil law suits against the government that followed owing to the incompetency of the senior civil servants in charge, requesting changes and not paying for them, law suits that ran into hundreds of millions. The contracts they issued were to 3 different companies the country split into 3 different areas, each one designing different systems, so barking mad for a start, most people would want a single system that the whole of the nhs could use. The gov department said they wouldnt issue large contracts to large companies but break it into smaller packages, nhs budgets were ring fenced.
