I lived near enough to be able to see the flames, then that night heard from shocked fans. The scenes on tv the day were awful. The victims will never be forgotten.

It was truly horrible to see the, live, footage on tv as the flames took hold. It looked like it would be easy enough to escape the flames but little did we know at the time that the escape doors were padlocked shut

The Yorkshire TV footage with John Helm commentating is so so upsetting still to this day.

It was very bad and is often forgotten not only by the press but also the media as it was not a so called big club like Liverpool.
I remember the next day at Crewe a safety inspection on the main stand showed up that they had been lucky over the years with paper next to cigarette butts and the lawn mower equipment including petrol being stored underneath the main stand, together with the stand being made of wood and old railway sleepers was a wake up call for all in football and the advent of a lot of new stadiums being built.

Very sad, the 56 as awful a tragedy as Hillsborough really, and totally avoidable... RIP Bantams
