Just like to shout out to all those who stood filmed and did sod all as my 16 year old daughter chased and apprehended a shoplifter in the potteries centre today. All the lads who she works with left her to it as she chased him through debanhams and past mamas cafe until an older bloke helped her outside, they showed real testicular fortitude. Anyway she's getting a £250 bonus for stopping a lad nicked a cpl of pairs of emporio boxers from Scotts don't know which is more embarrassing nicking the boxers or getting stopped by a kid, strangely he only threw kicks and punches at my daughter not the bloke who helped grab him

On the subject of this generation a few years ago my daughter aged 17 had hair down to her waist. She went to the hairdressers had it plaited, cut off and donated it to a childrens cancer charity to make wigs.

We talk freely of sporting heroes and heroines who get paid handsomely for being one. This young lady is the true heroine the definition of which is a woman admired for her courage, outstanding achievements, and noble qualities. Your daughter is every bit this and thank you for the post of month if not year.

Whilst I applaud your daughter for what she did, it's no longer an age to be doing what she did. Far too often nowadays the scumbag she chased is carrying a knife or dirty syringe, this story could very easily have a completely different outcome.

Very courageous act indeed and the important thing is that she's all ok. I know first hand what it is like to take matters into your own hands as she did but then I was being paid to do it, even then I was only 19. TDC makes a very salient point though. On one occasion the worst happened and my villain produced a knife and I came off worse. The sad fact remains that although there are/were numerous others who could have helped very rarely will they. I know that with some of us instinct kicks in but our lives are far more valuable. Having said, good on her.

In all honestly I felt a bit of a shit when I bollocked her after for the same points you made. It's a bit weird when you feel proud but then have to moan at her about it. Part of the reason I posted on her to show her I was proud of her but the parental side also means I worry as well

Good on her though.

Good for your girl - she showed she's got balls. And good for you, you can be rightfully proud of her. But a pair of boxers ain't worth dying for. We've seen that she's got balls, we don't want to see that she's got blood and guts too.

It's nice to know that there are people in the world like this but shoplifting isn't the time to be a hero. Inform security of other members of staff. It's not a dangerous situation but it can become dangerous when heroics like this take place. You want the good people to survive, not the other way round.

Thank God this low life was not armed.

Fair play to her...not sure it's generational though? Perhaps the wrong title it was more a slight against all those who started filming and taking pictures instead of helping

I was in Bolton a few years ago now and came across a gang of boys beating up 2 others I was the only one to step in to try and calm the situation down there were about 50 or so shoppers just standing around watching eventually when I got the two boys safe a women helped me to disburse the gang. Luckily I just used my voice was strong but was scared throughout. that Id be accused of something If I touched anyone but was calm and used my presence 6ft 5 the problem is that people don't know the law and are afraid to get involved. If more people spoke out and stopped this then more could be done on the whole. Another problem with this robbery is that we have come to a consumer society where it is seen as acceptable by some to steal if they don't have something. I was brought up that if you didn't have something you went without. As a society we have come to materialistic and families are frightened by kids who demand more or will run to authorities claiming abuse or neglect because they have not got the most up-to-date fashion item. The problem is to many people know there rights but have forgotten there responsibilities and the law has not helped this.
