So, in summary it was a hard decision to leave but it was Stoke who made it happen by offering him reduced terms and bit Cardiff's arm of when they offered £1m. Ohhhhhh Kayyyyyy! BM

BM,
This is exactly what happened I lived next to Kav at the time and can tell you he was a great bloke who was gutted when stoke offered him pretty much nothing to stay.
I also know that cardiff were after thorney at the start of the season when they failed to get Bobby Zamora from Brighton. Thorney kept quiet and Kav naively at the time came out and said cardiff had more ambition which was true.
He loved playing for Stoke the fans and the area.
I had the pleasure of meeting our former director of football who pretty much confirmed what kav told me at the time.
Many of thr older posters on here who know me are aware of the true events which are as reported here.

I do believe we were shambolically run at the time as the "Icelandics" 😄 Were fast losing interest in the club. Kav was an idiot to slag the club off though, only supporters can do that! He skilfully managed to completely deflect any anger supporters might have had for the the club (based on the facts you have presented) and got the full on deal. Ex Players are loved or hated depending on how they leave or in this case are perceived to leave. Sheron wasn't very clever on this score either. BM

if I remember right, the Sentiwank misquoted cav, or bigged it up and said something like 'bigger and better than you'. Cav did not quite say this, he certainly did not say much that was much controversal, and suddenly the Stoke fans hated him, because of a wankstain article.

Now time has passed, Kav was great here, and while we felt betrayed, actually he left for a contract that was right for him and his family. Yes, we screwed him and Cardiff in that amazing Semi Fiinal, but I look back on his time here with a smile on my face, and Wembley when he scored against Bristol City, wow, thanks Kav. I hated you for a while at Cardiff, but I recognise you were doing the best for you and your family.

BM When Kav said that Cardiff were more ambitious, I actually thought he was doing the supporters a favour in trying to shame the club publicly. Unfortunately, he misjudged how the supporters would react, and instead they turned against him. In truth though, he'd been largely unappreciated by the supporters for quite some time, and I suspect they were waiting for him to do or say something wrong so they could jump on him. I know from a family member who worked at the club at that time, and who I trust 100%, that Kav was in tears on the day he left the club. A much maligned ex-player who deserved better in my opinion.

I never understood how the fans turned against Kav. He was by far our most gifted player and was clearly forced out of the club. The thing about being bigger and better or whatever, I thought Kav had said Cardiff had more ambition? I wouldn't disagree either. We sold Peter Thorne and Kav in a single summer. What kind of ambition is that?

It's interesting that 10-20 years on, players like Kav and Sheron who were at the time real important players in declining teams (then received abuse like very few that came after them), we learn that they actually wanted to stay and were shepherded out the door!
