Don't know what to think about what he says. I think the truth is we've not played anywhere near our potential for 16 months or so but I don't expect to hear him say that and I don't think it would do anyone any good. What worries me is what does he believe privately or between him and his close aides because unless privately they can acknowledge that we've slipped back over a sustained period I find it hard to see how they can move us forward. If they really think the performances even when we've won have been good they're deluded.

What do people expect him to say in the public eye?
"Yeah we've been absolutely wank for two seasons now actually. Hardly any of our signings have worked, imbula's lazy and pretty shit, shaq's a sick note, nobody can hit a barn door from the inside, and our fullbacks are utterly abysmal."

No in terms of position we're not that bad. However the footballs been poor and for the most part completely devoid of excitement.

He even admitted yesterday that we've fallen below the standards he himself has created for our club. He's right with these comments as well. We aren't that bad and it is far better to say that than to say we aren't that good. Hughes is a winner. The deluded ones are those that think he'd be content with mediocrity. Whether he can lift us out of our current mediocrity is a different debate and discussion entirely but to question his contentment with being average is beyond stupid.

If the other teams have had bad spells, this is when WE should capitalise! Shit management this season IMHO.

If you look at the points total of the top 7 now versus the same number of games last season, I think every team (bar Arsenal who are slightly behind) have a higher points total. So they've increased the gap between the rest. It's disappointing we haven't beaten any of the top 7 this season, but not many teams outside the top 7 have a good record against the top 7... plus Arsenal.

How many goals have we scored past 75 minutes?
How many home goals have we scored in front of the Boothen End?
How many minutes is it since we actually scored anywhere away from home?
Face up to it, it's been a right shit season.

I obviously don't read him that well then. He just seems very defensive to me, I think he could be slightly more open and honest without beating up on himself and the players in a damaging way but there again I suppose that's just his personality.

We have done fairly well at home after the Spurs game early in the season, but away we haven't collected enough points. Not because we have played so badly, but in many games we simply haven't been sharp enough. We haven't scored enough from chances created and we have conceded too many soft goals, as a result of this we have at least 10 points less right now than we really should have got. We could even have created many more chances if Eric had been able to put in a decent cross more often than one out of 30 or something like that! I think to upgrade our fullbacks will be our most important task for next season! Ramadan must also play a bigger part next season, and we simply need to score more goals. Really hope Indi signs a permanent deal and that Ryan stays for at least 3-4 seasons more! I also think we need to ship out some of our 30+ years players even if it hurts to see some of them go. We need fresher legs and more pace in our team to get closer to the top six which should be our target!

He can prove it by winning the West Ham game..or 16th is a distinct possibility. We aren't improving.

I keep returning to this like a stuck gramophone record but it was our lame exits at the first hurdle in the 2 cup competitions against poor opposition fielding below strength sides in front of our own fans that knocked the stuffing out of me this season

Should bring back Pulis ;-) Just the usual Stoke moaners. Those around in Waddo's time must have passed it on. Why don't those that just want to moan all the time just fuck off down the Fail where they would be much happier having something to moan about. It's not really constructive to just moan all the fucking time.

It's not really constructive to just moan all the fucking time. That's such a poor stance to take boothenesque. All fans want to see the club performing and progressing and currently we are stuck in reverse. The wheels have come off since the semi final and it needs to be addressed but all the noise coming from the club is that everything is fine. I like Hughes as a person and he had 2 excellent seasons with Stoke however we are not learning from the same mistakes over and over. I'd rather not fuck off down the vale if that's all the same with you and I certain don't want the previous incumbent back but what I do want to see is the following addressed or at least acknowledged: Pre-season - an absolute sham, too much travelling and not enough games. Player signings - too many expensive foreign imports (who is sanctioning these signings?) In-game management - negative a d poor tactical substitutions week in week out. Set pieces - we look like conceding off everyone with nobody left upfield. Second half performances - dreadful. No late goals at all. Treatment of key players - Grant/Sobhi/Affelay. Persistence of playing players in chronic form - Pieters/Johnson etc... I would attribute at least 70-80% of the above to the management team and something needs to change.
