Saw a Chinese guy in Verona airport about 5 years ago wearing a Stoke top. I was there with work and had booked my return flight to get home for a midweek game that night. So I went over and said : are you heading back for the match tonight ? He did not speak a word if English and just looked at me with a puzzled look. So I pulled out my season ticket (was before the new card system) and he jumped up with a smile and pulled out a ticket stub from the previous Saturday's match which was Chelsea at home. Then he started hugging me and for his wife to take our photo. No idea why he had been to the Brit, but hope he still wears the shirt back in China with pride! Johnny Come Ratery.

Native Chinese speaker here. Both the L and R sounds are present in Chinese. I have no idea why foreigners think Chinese people can't pronounce L sounds. Think of Chinese last names like Lee, Lin, Lai. One feature of the Chinese language is that all phonemes end in vowel sounds. As a result, Chinese speakers either drop consonants at the end of syllables or overpronounce them so that the consonant is a separate syllable. Johnny Come Lately in a Chinese accent would be Jon-ee Con La-te-lee. shanghaipotter, how do you not know this living in China? (I assume that's where your name comes from.)

Sheesh, I'm teaching people how to accurately mimic a Chinese accent, not to express outrage at people trying to do so. It's akin to a non-English speaking person saying that they're imitating a British accent when they're actually imitating an American accent. I think British people would be pretty annoyed by the inaccuracy. By the way, the lack of phonemes ending in consonants does not apply to Cantonese, the language spoken in Hong Kong. They have L sounds too. I should have made that distinction.

Seems like many of us haven given Stoke shirts to random people on our travels around the world, good job everyone! Not exactly a shirt, but I do know that there is, or at least there was, a SCFC pennant hanging in the dressing room of Pannaxiakos F.C. on Naxos. I know because it was me that left it there.

I've given old shirts to people in China, Nepal, Tibet (so China again I suppose), Cambodia, Thailand, Israel, Ethiopia, Afgan and Lebanon.
Although I'm sure I can't claim credit for any seen as a lot of charity clothing gets sent to Africa, Asia and the Middle East, typically old football shirts are commonplace amongst them.
.... The one I gave away in Lebanon was my old man's (so an XXXL).... I bet they're still trying to put weight on now to fit into it.... Or maybe using it as a tent!

I have it on good authority that one of my old Stoke shirts (circa 1992) is still hanging up in the Duke of Duckworth pub in St John's Newfoundland.

I was waiting to pay for petrol the other week in the Blue Mountains about 100kms west of Sydney. A bloke had a bright yellow short on with Britannia across the front. A closer look and there was the stoke badge. Thought it must be a goalie shirt but he told me it was from the stoke reserves. Anyway he was a good bloke and on holiday from Longton. He gets on the oatcake (my predictive text just spelt pancake but i changed it) but I've forgotten his name. If you're reading this mate, hope you had a great trip back.

I went Turkey a few years ago and there was a bloke who had a shop in the hotel ugër cän he was name I'll never forget him. Anyway, I got talking about football to him and he was a besiktas fan and everywhere I go I take a Stoke flag for my balcony (typcial English lout) and on the last day I give him my flag and he said he'll put it up in his shop.
A few weeks later, we decided book up and go again to the same place but this time with all the family. I got there and went see straight away if he'd put my flag up but he hadn't so I asked the bloke where ugër was and he said he was in another shop now in the up in the town so the next night we went up for a drink in the town and see if we could see this shop. Got to the top of the main strip and there it was a 6x4ft St. George's Cross with SCFC on it in the window of his shop I was absolutely buzzing!

Donated a Stoke shirt to Champs Bar in Budapest (they have shirts and scarfs lining the walls) last year. My mate went in March and they hadn't put it up.
Put a second Wolves top up since I went, apparently.

Random lady wearing her "Bojan" home shirt this morning at Worcester Parkrun. Nothing too continental I know, but only usually 2 Stokies doing our Parkrun.
The good lady also suggested that the little Spaniard should be starting today & not in Germany. Much kudos indeed 😆
