That's what I predicted in September 2016, when we were in awful form and a predictor thread was started. A tad optimistic, but what is feasible right now?

And is the fact that so many teams have yet to reach 40 points an indication of it being a pretty poor league this season? There seems a huge gulf from Everton down.

4 consecutive 3-0 victories in the final matches would take us to 51 points and a GD of -1.
I can't find the missing 7 points for you though!
And yes there is a chasm from Everton down. They say the Premier League is the most competitive in the world and that may be true but it's still very much a 2-speed operation.

I actually based it on Bony banging them in as well! Looking at the league, it did surprise me how close so many teams were to each other. What that means, I don't know, but we are closer to the "poor" teams than the first "good" one in Everton.

What this thread says to me is:- our expectation was to be maintained perhaps, rising a little
whilst our teams on pitch evolution has somewhat reversed

After Hull I expected a lot more at Swansea with the pressure pretty much off now I'm not so sure . Saturday will be interesting , two teams who have both underperformed this season if we can get a good win it could mean a decent points yield from the last 3 games lose and we might struggle to reach 40

Still think 9th is a possibility, especially if a few results from others go our way.

Position wise I don't think its that bad. I look at the league and think there are 5 teams we're markedly better than Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hull, Burnley and Watford. I see us in a league between 8th and 16th and we could finish as high as second or as low as second from bottom of that particular league. Given the way we have performed I think second would be a false position and second bottom more reflective of what I've seen on the pitch. Realistically I don't think it will do us any good to finish in a falsely high position as I think that will lead to the people that matter kidding themselves that this season has been satisfactory when supporters almost to a man believe it hasn't.

We will finish 10th and above Watford (who are above us at the moment) it won't mean a great season and changes need to be made, but as fans we need to get real, it's a couple of places and a few points off an aspirational finish.

Being real I don't think the amount of no shows this season is professional
It's a ruthless league and any team will have days when they can't get going against classy opposition
But that is not what's going on this season
Put bluntly there has been an over the top amount of no shows this season. And something has to be done about it.
