Saw Lineker's tweet earlier
If the FA do clamp down how will this affect SCFC with Bet365 being such a big part to our overall brand image these days?

I don't think they will clamp down with the money they provide.
I think sarcastically that is what Gary is saying.

Saw Lineker's tweet earlier If the FA do clamp down how will this affect SCFC with Bet365 being such a big part to our overall brand image these days? It's only his opinion I wonder how he feels about his BIG contract with BT sport being funded by the Bet365 adverts that dominate their match day coverage ? Daft fucker needs to think before he engages

I wonder what he thinks, looking back, on the fact that he wore the shirt of club sponsored by a beer company now that one of his good friends in football is battling alcoholism? Like you say mate, Lineker should engage his brain before opening his mouth.

There's absolutely no chance the FA will tone down the gambling ads etc. The situation is rosy. They're making shed loads every time Ray Winstones face appears on the box. In-play specials, acca of the week, acca tracker, request a bet etc. It's like printing money.
There is limited benefits to cracking down on their fishy relationship with the bookies. Joey Barton was the perfect scapegoat.

I never really got all this sponsorship fuss TBH. OK Brand awareness I get, and promoting Bet 365 over Paddy Power is brand awareness, but does it encourage betting. It's not as if any football fan does not know how to gamble. For new products I understand, but betting and gambling as a whole have been around forever, and if and when I decide to place a bet, it's not cuz I have seen some overpaid footy player with a Bet365 shirt on. Bit like when Embassy sponsored the snooker, I never once craved a fag after watching the final.

It's not the sponsorship per se that's the problem. How the FA let current managers such as klopp and Harry actually star in the adverts is bizarre.

Jug ears is full of bright ideas on many subjects, not that I care to hear them from him, he is a piss poor crisp eating pundit, spend some time learning how to talk about football properly and stop licking the arse of your shite hawk team, once you manage that I might listen to your other views

Lineker is just spouting as usual, without thinking. Bet365 has an organised marketing campaign which always includes betting responsibly and there is nothing the FA can do about legitimate enterprises who choose to sponsor football clubs. The idiot players betting (Barton) is the main issue.

Ask the TV if they will stop the betting adverts they are the ones that control the F.A.now and see what response you'll get off them.

The more times you see Ray Winstone's head on telly with the bet365 logo spinning around it the more chance that when you decide to download a betting app or go on a betting site that their name will be the first name that comes into your head. It must work else they wouldn't spend so much money on it.

Perhaps the FA should clamp down on football clubs who go into administration and get out of paying what they owe to local businesses, Gary?

Wonder if Gary will be leading a campaign if players are caught smuggling too many bottles of whisky into the country, after buying it in duty free?

Perfectly valid point that Lineker makes about the whiff of hypocrisy that hangs around things like this. Like it or not we would be a stronger organisation if we diversified our sponsorship etc. because as sure as eggs is eggs sooner or later in the sort of society we live in gambling (particularly in sport) will come into focus and much stricter legislation will follow.

Oh FFS... if you believe Lineker was being serious, read the latest football news stories regarding betting, then look up the words "sarcasm" and "irony".
Oscar Wilde once said, “Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence.” Don't paint Lineker with the "thick footballer" brush.

I'm guessing the irony is he knows the FA will make no changes in betting advertising or sponsorship but he thinks there should be some change.. Am I right or is there something else. If I'm correct, this is the sort of hypocritical wet liberalism folk are right to criticise him for. Alcohol and obesity are far bigger problems in society than gambling and he actively promotes a product that contributes significantly to the latter and does not criticise the former's relationship with football.
