From the sentinel Peter Crouch reveals love for oatcakes: I take some home twice a week "I like my oatcakes," he said. "There is a scout who has been there for years and years, Stewy, (Stuart Ralphs) who I think brought Andy Wilkinson to the club. I've always got on well with him in the years I've been at Stoke and he brings me in oatcakes every week from his local shop believe it or not. "I can't eat them all! I can't eat all the ones he brings in but I take them home probably twice a week and pass on some to the security guards as well. "I like just butter and cheese personally. I like to keep it simple. I know a lot of people throw on bacon or sausage or all sorts but for me cheese will do. link

Certainly are, bit of a shame the folk that run the place are miserable fuckers but they're the best oatcakes I've found.

I love Crouchy's "believe it or not"s for completely mundane and believable things..
"he brings me in oatcakes every week from his local shop believe it or not" "one of my old mates from QPR is a personal trainer now believe it or not" "I've just had me breakfast believe it or not"
It's ok Pete, we believe you.

Anyone that butters their Oatcake needs to sort their life out. Or eat them with a curry... They're rumoured to have been derived from chapati's and brought back from India by the men of the Staffordshire Regiment in the days of the raj. Then they adapted them to English taste with oatmeal flour. The bacon, cheese and tinned tomato thing is all ours π

Grill oatcake for a while both sides, so it is quite crispy. While still warm, slap on some butter, followed by loads of strawberry jam, roll it up (bit difficult cos it's a bit crispy), then scoff it!! Fantastic!!! And I'm not kidding......try it!

Am I the only one who doesn't get the oatcake love in ? Had 2 in the last year and that was when we had them at work I can have 2 or 3 but that's it. Quite greasy things. Can't fathom how people eat more than 3 in a sitting.

The bacon, cheese and tinned tomato thing is all ours π I have heard that rumour but I've read that the oatcake pre-dates the days of the raj, apparently they've been around since the 17th century in the North Staffs area. I think the Ethiopian Injera looks a closer 'fit' actually, can't imagine how a connection between that and the oatcake would come about tho'? teffco.com/traditional-injera/
