Suppose it's all on hold until he's back and playing up to his former levels, but notice in the 'odds to make the World Cup 2018 squad' betting he's currently 4th, probably because he's been out of sight and out of mind. Hart 1/16 Forster 1/3 Heaton 1/3 Butland 11/8Pickford 2/1 Foster 20/1 I've always thought Hart's been decent, but nothing special and had his England profile artificially raised by playing for an elite club. And I don't think he'll hang on for too much longer. Don't massively rate Forster either and think Butland has a clear edge there. But during Butland's year out, Heaton and Pickford have really emerged - and Pickford is being tipped for a biggish summer move so that could push his profile up. There seems to be 5 legitimate contenders just to get into the World Cup squad.

Depends where Pickford goes to, I reckon a move to Everton will be good for him (they've been linked recently) as I think he'll have no problem getting ahead of Joel.
There's rumours of Man C getting him in and loaning him back to us for the season, whilst that'll be great for us it will be pointless for his career to spend a season against the likes of Chris Wood.
I reckon it's a toss up between Butland and Pickford for 2020 (given both their ages compared to the others). Hart will be number 1 still for 2018 I think though.

I have a feeling Jack will not be here next season! A top 4 side will come in for him!

Tom Davies at 7/2 is a great price.
We've got no midfielders and he'll be even better in 12 months than he is already.
Whether you want your money tied up with Paddy Power for that long is another matter entirely!

I have a feeling Jack will not be here next season! A top 4 side will come in for him! There could be openings coming up at Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal (and maybe even Man Utd if De Gea finally moves) If any of the young English keeper are targeted, they'll definitely want to take the chance. But will any of them pull the trigger on Butland after a year out and without seeing him back playing?

No-one will take the plunge after so long out, and I don't think Butland would want to do the dirty on us after 12 months of being paid to sit on the treatment table- he doesn't seem the type.

I'm not sure I'd be wanting to take the 8/1 on Saido!

After his performance against us a couple of months back, I'd be more interested in his price to partner Tom Daley in the next Olympics.

Totally agree about Hart, I remember how good he was on loan at Birmingham but he's never lived up to that potential for me. He always comes over as a little bit too cocky and over-confident on the field, which is weird because he seems like a genuinely nice guy off the pitch. If Butland hadn't picked up that unfortunate injury I honestly think he would be No. 1 already.

Obviously he has lost a year of his career but he's young has time to bounce back and has every chance of being in our World Cup squad next year.

I have a feeling Jack will not be here next season! A top 4 side will come in for him! It would take a very brave (or stupid) club to pay out big money for Jack after being out for so long....and the fact his ankle kept giving out each time we thought he was just coming back!!! I think he needs a season now to prove his fitness and get back to his best!!! I'm sure he'll still be here for next season!!! Hope so anyway!!!

Yes he is, especially with Southgate in charge.
Hart, like all England keepers, has too many mistakes in him. He was a total liability at the Euros.
Seen Pickford mentioned above...don't rate him that high at all. 90% camera saves.

I have a feeling Jack will not be here next season! A top 4 side will come in for him! I am having a hard time coming up with any good reasons why up and coming young players would stay at Stoke or transfer in. 36 points with 6 games to go and playing very poorly is not exactly a great prospect.

Rumours at Liverpool that they are sold on Butland.

Playing for England has cost us our best player for over a year.
I would be very happy to see Jack play for Stoke. Who plays for England is well down my list of priorities.

Going to be interested to see how this shakes up.
Southgate seems to like Butland and knows him well, but if Pickford is playing regularly for a big club next year, could be an interesting call. Will anyone displace Hart in the next 12 months?
It'll be interesting to see who Southgate goes with for the June internationals.

Strange how things change. Our squad for Euro 2012 had Hart, Green and Ruddy and our goalkeeping stock was widely considered to be at an all time low. Now there are five or six very decent options most of which are years away from their peaks.

Southgate rates Butland very highly and was his permanent No1 for the U21s
The fact he came to watch him in only his 2nd game back from serious injury ( and he was immense) tells me he's high in his thoughts

Seriously, if supporting Stoke made me as miserable as you, I'd give serious consideration to giving up following them all together. Either that or putting my head in a gas oven.

I think he'll stick around for another year. We've stuck with him through a bad injury and he seems like a level headed guy who would return the favour. Unless we get offered daft money obviously.
