Interseting to see how firmly he backs Hughes. Guessing he'll be right behind him, publicly at least

I guess this will be some kind of 'nerve settler' arranged by the Corporate Marketing department.
'We've hit some choppy water but the future is bright...'

Interseting to see how firmly he backs Hughes. Guessing he'll be right behind him, publicly at least When it looked like Pulis was on rocky ground in his final half season, there was no unequivocal backing from Coates. If he says they're 100% behind Hughes I'll believe him. If he doesn't give that kind of backing then it starts to look a bit bleak for our Leslie.

Can someone post what's said on here? Said he'll be disappointed if we finish below 9th. Less money. Always want to do better. "We've got to start winning. Not winning at the moment." When asked about some fans wanting a change of manager, Coates didn't want to discuss it. Seemed very eager to move on to the next question. He's frustrated we're not doing better. Very interesting!

"Disappointed. Didn't take our chances" etc.
Praise for Mignolet Frustration
"Poor game against Spurs, Leics" "Think we've done okay otherwise in last five games"
"Disappointed if we finish less than 9th - there obviously are financial implications"
"Winnable games coming up"
"Understands the fan's frustrations"
Hughes out? "Don't want to discuss that. Not up for discussion. Concentrating on winning the next few games. We'll keep on supporting the current manager"
"Doing all we can to make sure the team is in good shape in the summer"
"Disappointed with the season, up to the team ultimately"
"Happy that Butland is coming back"
Lastly
"Every game is tough. Man City result was great. Chelsea performance was v good - up to our mistakes. Got to put those kind of performances on more consistently"

www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/bbc_radio_stokeFirst thought is the support for Hughes not as wholehearted as it could have been? "Some have called for a change of manager in the summer?" "I don't want to discuss that at all. We're just getting on and concentrating on the next game. It's not up for discussion. We're concentrating with our present management team to make sure we win the next game and make sure we're fine"

No backing of the manager whatsoever Sounded like it. No "we're fully behind him" or anything like it

Could have supported Hughes but chose not to.

Seems like he's far more concerned than I first thought. Didn't think he'd sack Hughes in summer, still don't, but the chance of it happening has gone up slightly reading that IMO.

You really get the feeling he is right in the thick of it with us as fans. He must have said the word frustrated and disappointed like 10 ten times easily! Can hear him kicking every ball in his voice, ruing the missed chances etc..
Just imagine dealing with Vincent Tan, and then ask yourself if we really have it that bad here!
I'm not sure what to make of that interview to be honest.. Anyone else listen to it?

I interpreted it as Hughes starting a 6 game audition for his job.

No backing of the manager whatsoever You are kind of flipping the script here though Crouchy, jumping to a conclusion slightly. I get your point but as he said it was not up for discussion. He wasn't there to address that aspect of our current slump at all. It was never an interview about the manager's future from the get-go, so to say he didn't outright back him is kind of misleading. He also didn't talk about the corner really. Or other stuff.

I interpreted it as Hughes starting a 6 game audition for his job. From what's been said, it sounded like exactly the kind of backing he was giving to Pulis at this stage of his final season. I think the decision's already been made.

It wasn't the most optimistic of interviews was it. A lot of negative words used, not much sunshine and rainbows

If he knew for certain that he was sticking with Hughes next season, he'd have said so and put an immediate end to any speculation. The other interesting question is why did Coates agree to the interview in the first place. He must have known he was going to be asked the question.
