We've never really had a bumper friendly at home since we moved grounds (apart from Liverpool and ManUre when we were slumming it in the lower leagues). Be nice to get one of the European big boys down the Bet365, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Marseille etc. (I'm assuming Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich would be out of reach!) Would love to get Marseille I owe one of them twats something from the euros Other than them away wise it'd have to be Holland for me.

Germany is great though isn't it, weather usually great, cheap and very good beer, locals seem to favour the English. It just all seems to work. Don't mention the war!

Pre season abroad is always a big highlight of the season. Of the past 3 German trips I found Freiburg to be the best. I prefer the smaller cities/towns for pre season though cologne and Hamburg catered for the much bigger followings. Going back to the days of when only a few dozen or so stoke fans used to travel to pre season fixtures abroad some of the best trips were Antwerp (my personal favourite for Germinal Beerschott and Westerlo) and the Austria stint under pulis was good, always basing ourselves in Salzburg which is a fine city. I'm hoping for Holland this time as it's somewhere we've not played recently. It's nice to see how our current status has changed the way teams treat us abroad, playing at bundesliga proper stadiums, when 15 years ago when playing for example Hannover, we were only worthy of an athletics field with a rope around the pitch and horrendous facilities. Wherever it may be, see you there. Agree re smaller places / smaller followings ..indeed going back even further , or odd games in more recent times when numbers were in single figures my favourite. Advance planning by clubs & the age of the Internet tends to mean 2 months notice for the majority ( but not all ) of games..as opposed to a matter of a few days ( or no info at all ) certainly helps fans with planning , as does the Internet & being able to book yourself a trip to just about anywhere in the world being the biggest reasons for the increase in numbers

I remember around 12/3 years ago in Austria when they changed the location of the game literally the night before, imagine the scramble we had trying to get 15 of us to this new location in the remote Austrian alps with a few hours notice. It all made for good memories though.

Don't mention the war! when we went to Cologne, we managed to mention the war, while being forced onto a tram in boiling temperatures a chap mentioned how well they were doing it, but then again so they should with the practice they had in past years of stuffing people onto trains following that a certain southern gentleman and well known fan decided we should walk, so we all got off singing the great escape, good days, was in good humour, until 5 minutes later when it all kicked off with the turks/locals/police

As a pensioner who doesn't get to all home games in a season, and not able to contemplate just disappearing off to Austria / Germany / France / Florida, etc etc, at the drop of a hat for a piss up........ a few friendly matches actually AT the bloody B365 would be very welcome :-) :-)

But the u23s will have a few I'd imagine locally at places like Castle etc. Well worth going! 👍

SL&P are reporting that we're playing Borussia Dortmund in a pre-season friendly as well as Sheffield Utd, Crewe and Bolton.
I'd be astounded if we played Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion, will probably be in a field in Austria.

I'd doubt it would be that weekend of August 6th as they'll have bigger fish to fry than us ...this is probably an earlier fixture

It would be amazing but I've had a quick look at their previous pre-seasons and they've only played exhibition sides at the Westfalenstadion. It'll be like their friendly against Sunderland last summer.

We can't even manage to put a few pics of the new kit on the website in a competent fashion - trying to properly organise pre-season friendly matches against continental opposition must be like complex astro-physics to the lemons our club employs.......

Could you imagine AC Milans front office getting scholes Voicemail hahaha Sometimes I wonder how much the lack of change in that department stifles the club.
