I wouldn't travel to Burton to watch a preseason friendly so don't suppose it matters where they have them. It would be nice however to have a European giant at home sometime, would probably have a drive over for that. It would have to be somebody proper decent mind. I wasn't particularly excited by anyone we played in the Europa. Perhaps we could have squeezed a friendly out of Seville with the N'Zonzi deal.

The trips to Cologne and last year Hanburg were epic. And in Cologne we played Porto as well as the host City, so not shabby opposition. Not excited about playing Valencia in Europa? This must be a wind up!

It'll be a tournament in the south of France, against non league opposition, played at walking pace. Meaning we'll be fit and firing for the start of the season, just like we always are

I don't think European football is that exciting unless you're in the Champions League. I'm not massively into domestic cup football either. I would never accept a shite season in the league in exchange for a cup final.

What if he (hopefully) gets sacked and a replacement manager wants to go elsewhere and do preseason properly?

Would expect training camp in Germany/ Austria with games in Germany / Austria poss Switzerland to feature ..
The clubs / managers requirements seldom match supporters wish list

Well it won't be The Amsterdam Tournament as they're not doing it this year due to CL qualifiers.
They ARE however playing a friendly against Chelsea....
Typical !
Oh well looks like another drive to 'ze Vader land' then 😁

Germany is great though isn't it, weather usually great, cheap and very good beer, locals seem to favour the English. It just all seems to work.

Never mind friendlies its been bad enough watching league and (a few) cup games! A decent end to the season is needed first before we even know who the manager will be in the summer!

Got the okay from the missus to travel from Amsterdam or Berlin (our two European holiday destinations in late July/early August) to a Stoke game or two within a reasonable distance of either.
Over to you, Scholesy!

They should in theory stay local , do loads of fitness training , lots of shooting practice and set piece practice and play lots of local games
E.G Birmingham City Aston Villa Wolves Leicester Everton
with a settled side for the last couple of games
If Sparky's around you can bet any money , none of this will happen :-(

I miss the Newcastle Town opening game even though not much of a test. It was nice, but I guess they are too concerned about injuries with the turf and things like that.

Thun Split Besiktas 3 of the best games of my life Those were great games, and the trip, the adventure and the opportunity to watch our team abroad is pure magic, that's what makes them so memorable. I am looking forward to the European preseason again, the last two were awesome.

Pre season abroad is always a big highlight of the season. Of the past 3 German trips I found Freiburg to be the best. I prefer the smaller cities/towns for pre season though cologne and Hamburg catered for the much bigger followings. Going back to the days of when only a few dozen or so stoke fans used to travel to pre season fixtures abroad some of the best trips were Antwerp (my personal favourite for Germinal Beerschott and Westerlo) and the Austria stint under pulis was good, always basing ourselves in Salzburg which is a fine city. I'm hoping for Holland this time as it's somewhere we've not played recently. It's nice to see how our current status has changed the way teams treat us abroad, playing at bundesliga proper stadiums, when 15 years ago when playing for example Hannover, we were only worthy of an athletics field with a rope around the pitch and horrendous facilities. Wherever it may be, see you there.
