For those of you used to Twitter and in particular those of you who have accounts and follow various Stoke related pages etc, you might have an idea about what I'm going to say. Quite frankly I'm sick of a select few Twitter users who seem intent on spouting so much nonsense negativity regarding our football club that it's becoming quite unreal. The likes of Charlie, Whelan, Pieters, Bardsley etc seem to be taking most of the flak in terms of players. But then I see even more slating Mark Hughes which, put in simple terms, is not on. The man has come to our football club with a point to prove and has transformed a long ball playing football club who were feared at home, to a proper footballing side able to compete against sme of the greatest sides in Europe on our day - see Chelsea at home and Manchester City away. No matter what happens, Sparky and his players get no end of grief - even on days when we win, draw or don't even have a football match! It's absurd, it really is. Calling our own players fat and tweeting them directly is not what a fan of a football club does. End of. Now, luckily, it seems to be only a fairly small number of "supporters" who act in this way online - the rest of us seem to have a sense of understanding and gratitude towards not only the man at the helm but those he puts his trust in week in week out. I, for one, wouldn't dream of non stop slating of any one of our players on a consistent basis, especially not on a form of media on which is accessible to those who don the red and white. And to persistently call for Hughes' head, to slate him on a daily basis, and spend large amounts of time researching managers they'd rather have instead of him, is totally pathetic. Like I said, thankfully this seems to be only a small number of fans who have too much time on their hands and want to spend it moaning at every decision Sparky makes. The large majority of Stoke fans I know and have met along the years show nothing but appreciation regarding the welfare of our team. There's a large difference between being ambitious and wanting your side to progress and spouting constant negativity and abuse towards those who try their hardest to push this football club onwards day in day out. Up the Potters.

For every negative tweet there's probably 100 compliments. I think they know what they're in for when they sign up.

Up the Potters. I'd never give a personal attack on a player by calling him fat, although i do think some are lazy and don't give 100%... However when its not personal attacks people pay their money to watch it and can voice their opinion, even if others agree or not.

And let me tell you some of the people who are the opposite of those you describe can be just as bad / if not worse.

Ah, I think you may be right. It just amazes me that if you're trying to prove Hughes is a great manager why THOSE are the two games you would cite for evidence!

Don't get me wrong, there's been plenty on here down the years too but generally speaking, relative peace has broken out compared to the divisions we used to have. Basically from Stoke Twitter: Hughes should be sacked. Charlie is a disgrace. Any player that isn't Imbula is the devil (see above). Our fans don't deserve good players. Ad infinitum.

There's a large difference between being ambitious and wanting your side to progress and spouting constant negativity and abuse towards those who try their hardest to push this football club onwards day in day out. Up the Potters. I'm not going to pretend that everything on Twitter is perfect but I take issue with a lot of this. First of all, speaking as someone who is a regular on 'Stoke Twitter' and runs one of the Stoke related pages to which you may be referring, I'm a bit tired of the phrase "certain fans". It's used on Twitter to sub-tweet others they don't like and it's just daft. Point to specific instances - accounts, tweets, threads- of people saying things you find objectionable and call them out on it. You're perfectly entitled to disagree with people's opinions on Mark Hughes - but why don't you challenge these people's opinions directly rather than posting about them on another platform? People *directly* abusing players on Twitter is wrong, I agree - but nobody I follow does that and I'm certainly not interested in the opinions of those who do. The issues you're talking about, of players being 'slagged off' is no different to the very forum you're using right now. I've read all manner of harsh, derogitory and awful things about our own players on here - but i don't take it as representative of the whole Oatcake Message Board. I don't think being negative is unique to Twitter either - the people you're talking about 'researching other managers' etc do so because they're just as much a Stokie as you are, want whats best for the club and are entitled to voice their opinion, just like here - there'll have been loads of "If Hughes goes who do we get in?" type threads on here. In addition, for every tweet slagging off Hughes there are 10 staunchly defending the guy, and some who will jump to his defence for everything. Shock - a wide variety of Stoke fans have a range of different opinions. If you think someone is being unfairly negative, call them out on it rather than whine about an imagined cabal of people out to get Hughes and bring down the club in 140 characters. Certainly got a lot of time for the people on Twitter who challenge my opinions using their own name and photo rather than hiding behind a username.

Why piss your pants at a handful of fans when you accept that its the vast minority? Do you really expect 100% of people to agree with you? I think social media probably isn't for you if you get so arsed about one end of the extreme that is known as "opinion"

I used to run a facebook and twitter account for someone and in the end because of that and selfies and abuse this person gave up on all and started refusing to pose for pictures we would be in a restaurant and be constantly hassled or go somewhere and the same happen, it got so my friend didn't want to go out or tried to avoid going places that people would be and no they are not earning a lot of money as a celeb.
To me facebook twitter and selfies have created a situation where people think they can get away with anything and they own the sports stars and its got out of hand.
just think these sports stars have lives of there own and deserve some peace, abusing them does not help there form on the pitch or there loyalty to the club

I still have a facebook account, although I have recently started to "prune" the number of "friends" I have, to avoid some of the weird and wonderful stuff they bombard me with. Given that I also probably post a fair amount of rubbish, I never complain when someone "unfriends" me. Twitter - I was a member very briefly when it first started but I gave it up years ago once I realised how much abuse there was posted on it. Once I abandoned it my blood pressure dropped.
