Maybe there's a plan of some sort and we are hoping to create similar links to those we have established with Orlando. The way football has ups and downs and cycles perhaps Barca are a potential feeder club for the Mighty Potters.

We've offered a sum (rising to) 5m euros according to the Barca local paper, and it seems likely to happen. www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/alarma-cantera-por-posible-fuga-talentos-5932063Sergi Palencia has a proposal from Stoke City for weeks and all parties would be working to close the deal.
Right-back Sergi Palencia is the captain of the subsidiary. He has played practically everything, but he has also had a bittersweet flavor this season because Luis Enrique has not counted on him despite the problems he has had in that position with the first team.
Palencia did not even count when Aleix Vidal was out of the calls and did not have options after the injury of Aleix , as Lucho requested a signing until the end of the season. In this position, the side has come a more tempting offer than Stoke City.
The English team does not want to pay the termination clause of the player, who has a contract until 2019. The starting lineup is 12 million euros, but the club of the Premier shuffles an offer that would reach five million euros. Obviously, the Blaugrana club would be left with a repurchase option of about ten million euros. It will be necessary to see what happens if the subsidiary amounts to Second, but it is probable that the operation can be carried out.

Calculated gamble I suppose. He looks quick and tenacious and as Captain of the B team must be of the Right Stuff hopefully.

Article over the weekend suggest he's a very good character who's better at defending than going forward... www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/sergi-palencia-mas-media-vida-barcelona-5921513To be concrete, everything that comes to Robert Fernandez coming, simplifying the transaction, Pep Segura are good words. Very good.
As Albert Puig, formerly responsible for the quarry said , "without being a ten at all, he ended up convincing all his coaches that he should always play."
Never a word mistakenly chosen, never a complaint, just work, work and more work.
Today he turns 21 and came in 2006 with 10, so he has spent more than half a life wearing the shirt that still dreams of succeeding, waiting for the slightest slit to sneak into the Camp Nou. His only participation with Luis Enrique was to play the Supercopa de Catalunya in Tarragona against Espanyol . He played the last twenty minutes on the left wing and played without problems, despite usually standing on the right with the branch. The Spaniard prefers, when he has need, to count on Nili, who arrived last summer at the Mini Estadi.
Sergi Palencia does not give up. He has offers to leave next summer of important Segunda A clubs that have followed him all season. There are several teams that know in detail all his virtues and weaknesses, which has been polished over the years. One of them is his offensive side. Contrary to what is usual, Palencia is a bull defending and it has cost him more to develop in attack. But since joining the subsidiary has worked alongside the technicians of Barca B on that facet. He has personally spent many hours perfecting his arrivals in the rival's area and, above all, the centers . Both on the turf and with the video. The team has noticed and the proof is that it is essential for Gerard Lopez. His career supports him because he already played, being a youth,
In the coming weeks they arrive at the Mini Estadi, according to the usual explanation of the stadium in which the subsidiary plays, scouts of Italy and England to follow the footballer, whose great season has not gone unnoticed for anyone. The Stoke City, who pressed too much last summer to be with him, is another club that has convinced. The exception is Luis Enrique. His goodbye could mean that Palencia had his first big chance and, with another year of contract, could enter the list of youth players who make the preseason with the first team . It will be then that he must show that he is prepared to make the leap or, in the event that Barça B ends up, to be halfway between one team and the other. After eleven seasons in base football,

Looks a promising player (mind you, has anyone watched a youtube compilation and thought 'he's crap!') Seems a bit short though at 5' 7". Hard to see him coming in as a starter. So it'll be interesting to see who's retained between Bardsley and Johnson as the first choice. Bardsley would have to be the favourite at the moment.

Why couldn't he become a starter though Grapey? And sooner rather than later. He's 21. Give him some cup games after a pre-season and get him playing if he looks the real deal.

But just doesn't strike me as having the profile that Hughes would feel comfortable chucking in from the start of the season, and he doesn't seem to have been viewed as an elite prospect, ready for a big, immediate step-up by other comparable clubs if that 'Sport' article is a guide I like the look of him on that youtube compilation though.

The same rate of progress as Ramadan might be just the job I guess, although Sergi wouldn't be off to ACON so who knows. Naturally he wants First Team football so you'd have thought we'd be making a few assurances and we've had him on our radar for a while.

You don't get much of him for your money.
1.7 metres (5 foot 5 and a half in old money) and 66kg (less than 10 and a half stone) according to wiki

He has a look of a small Sergei Shtaniuk. Thin face and close cropped hair. Another tough nut?

I am more bothered about ability than height and weight in a full back - I prefer a Danny Rose to a Clint Hill! Some of the best full backs ever have been little terriers who snap at wingers' heels and shuttle up and down the flank. Good age, well schooled, so could be an interesting buy.

Cheers. Do the club not have much faith in him? Seems a bit odd buying a young lad in, on top of supposedly talking to Bardsley and Johnson about new deals, when you have a young lad in reserve, and a local one at that.

I was literally just about to post the same thing. Edwards is spoken of very highly by the coaching staff and has been on the bench this season. I was hoping we would keep one of Johnson or Bardsley and promote Edwards through as second choice.

They said recently they wanted players to enhance the existing starting 11 I think we've got to be looking at starters not add ins like we did with Moha and Molina if we are buying Spanish again they should be good enough to start in my opinion in fact whoever we buy should be better than an existing starter in that position. We do seem obsesssd with the right back position when the left back one is so weak and has no competition!!!

He might not yet be ready for the step up as part of his development. Bring in the Barca player and keep Bardsley/Johnson for another year or two (gulp!) As Sergi develops into the first team player Bards/Johnson will become reserve back up. Tom can then gradually become a reserve player and then aim for a first team place later over the next 3-4 years as the older players retire/leave.... should he be good enough.

Just hope that if we do get him he doesn't have to wait 12 months for the chance to play ( this happened to a very patient Muniesa)
