Exactly my point.
Ticket sales account for a minute percentage of our turnover and the seat has been sold anyway.
It equally could be suggested it makes little sense* to offer the service.
*Financial
It could enhance a fans experience of Stoke City and do it in the best way by allowing them to watch a game live. For the few grand it may cost it could get fans hooked for life to going the game. With the demand we have it makes no sense to have this service available.
I'm not saying that it's the correct decision, I'm simply offering an answer to the question you asked originally ... I'm pretty sure I'm not far off.

Oh I know: And as ever I think it's another example of our wonderful club being half arsed, resting on their laurels and being shite off the pitch!

I'm pretty sure that Man Citeh offer such a service and they're proper rolling in it!

Bad news for me. I live away so can't justify a season ticket and can't ever get tickets for home games these days. We need a few thousand extra seats

I guess ST holders can always give their ticket to someone else for the odd game? Providing there are no security checks.
Either that or a system which allows a ST holder to name up to 2 backups on their card or a household member could be good.
Also, a ST holder has paid for their seat and I don't really agree with the notions of 1) reimbursing them for not going to a game, 2) charging both them and a pay on the gate fan for the same game or 3) Making someone else pay to use a seat that's already been paid for previously at a lower price.

Barcelano operate an excellent and very strict 'if you are not going season ticket holder' scheme

i am a s/t holder but due to other commitments i do miss a fair few games.surely in this day and age i/we should be able to register our non attendance and allow that seat to be re-sold.i wouldnt even want any compensation as the s/t prices are so low anyway. instead the club could make a donation to the dmh&donna louise hospices say£5 each?

I'm the same regarding season ticket and attendance (and the donation), I'd love to be at every game but living and working where I do it's just not practical at the moment, my sister often has mine when I'm not there thankfully. Newcastle did have a facility where ST holders could register their non-attendance and the ticket resold, scrapped it just before the season they got relegated for some reason.

It seems that our sister club do it. If you click on the link below the tickets on sale are 'verified resale' tickets.
We could do well to learn from Orlando on a lot of things.
