I do my TV licence on line you can do it by monthly direct debit saves forgetting to renew and also easier when you come to changing address.
BT I think were doing an offer where if you take out a broadband contract for 12 months you get the sports channels for free, never done it but i'm pretty sure you can move it with you when you move out.
Council tax you'll need to register for at your new place I think there is a discount if you're living on your own and also make sure you're taken off at your house or you'll carry on being charged full whack.
For your new flat make sure you have details of all the current suppliers for electricity, gas, water, phone etc and once you now you're moving in for definite call them to make sure previous tenant hasn't asked them to cut supplies off, I spent a couple of lonely nights in a cold dark flat in Stoke Newington because of that schoolboy error.....
Also make sure you take utility readings as soon as you move in as it's not unknown for previous tenants to knock a bit off when they leave.

Yeah like the others have said, make sure you find out who your gas and leccy suppliers are and give them a ring so you're not cut off.
Get your council tax sorted for your new place (and off your old house), you'll also get 25% off if you're living alone.
From there you can search around for best deals to make it as cheap as possible. I haven't lived in Stoke for a while but up here in York Scottish Power are by far the cheapest and aren't too bad to deal with. If you're really skint and looking for furniture, gumtree can have some decent stuff for really cheap or even free until you get back on your feet.
Good luck mate.

Also freecycle could be worth looking at.
