Surprised me by chasing down a lost cause and making something of it. Looked like he's been inspired by Sobhi.

Oatcake logic.

The time to judge will be next season. This. He looked eager today and better than he's done previously even if it was for a few minutes. I'd definitely play him at Man City if only for the minutes in his legs.

I think we can get at their backline if we have the pacier players out.

I've blindfolded mesen and not read the thread yet.
I'm hazarding a guess that Bayern thinks he's the best footballer we've ever had. {Because he tore his hair out at Afellay late on.}....

It's a little bit of a head scratcher, for someone Hughes obviously believes in....hence the persistent chase!!! Maybe his fitness and weight may have something to do with it??? Whatever, I'm still hoping he comes good!!!

We need someone quick for when Stones does his obligatory, suicidal back pass! And to get up his arse to force it! Crouch won't do either. You'd fancy Ramadan to waltz past their full backs too. My first memory of him is skinning Zabaleta with ease. I'd rather we went down swinging than the shite we tried at Spurs.

I thought it was a pisser, but obviously put a positive spin on it and thought it showed some desire etc from Saido, made several good runs and even dribbles which I wasn't really expecting. Oh and Afellay My Lord yet another beautiful Cameo*. Should have slotted Saido through on that occasion though. World class grasping save to deny Ibrihim his just desserts. Did it. And added extra today as he eases into these new duties. You blame him for 18 months of football he's hardly featured in, and has had more positions than the Kama Sutru. Done them all pretty efficiently. Weird for me how you can't enjoy his football.

Didn't think I was banging mate. Just saying Afellay's been going through a footballing journey from a tricky winger hampered by injury into more of a midfielder with more defensive responsibilities. I'm impressed by his tenacity and strength in tackles, things he's never really been called upon to do in his previous roles.... etc etc... I could go on but then I would perhaps be banging on. Seems you can't see what a fantastic footballer he is, and I think he'll soon add a few goals too. Doesn't seem to be too proud to come off the bench either. He added loads today, you couldn't have been paying attention I apologise for doubting that you didn't see the incident I mentioned. .

I was speaking to an ex professional about the Berahino situation and why he isn't getting the minutes we migh necessarily think he should get. And he reckons it's down to Hughes protecting him from expectation. He's not fit. He was never going to hit the ground running from the off (fitness and we have poor supply lines). So why rush him? We have nothing to play for. Ease him in and let's see what happens.

He played a full season in central midfield for Olympiakos so it's a journey he's been on for a while! He's a tidy footballer but he doesn't hurt teams going forward and he doesn't defend enough to protect the back 4. He's a nothing player.

Kind of a freer midfield role to accommodate a quality footballer type situation. Don't wish to go around in circles on Afellay. Such a quality footballer, he's a great component imo. {Can we agree on Saido being pretty funky in his run out today and not hijack it with an Af dispute?}

What impressed me was his desire to run at the box and shoot - tame though it was. Single minded determination to score. He will only get better for us

I agree with the sentiment Pugs but in my opinion he should be getting more time rather than the limited spells, so that he regains match sharpness faster. Then also, if that is the 'plan', to play him as we have, then I am not impressed with it. The lad needs more to play off. A good 30 mins would have been more worth while against that shower, you never know he may have got a goal.
