The question that Coates needs to ask himself is can he back Hughes with big money again? Shaqiri(not really done it) Imbula(who the hell scouted him) Allen who I rate but many on here say is crap🤔 Joselu who looks like he's gone He's been better for me when he's bought in players like Arnie,Grant,Johnson,Affellay etc who've cost pittance in comparison Even if you rate Allen you've got to look at what his signing has done to the squad. We never needed him and it was clear his inclusion would marginalise Bojan. Which is still mental. He was never needed and it made an unbalanced midfield even more unbalanced. Allen could have fitted straight in if Hughes had had the bollocks to get rid of Whelan and find a replacement. He"s completely fucked up renovating this squad.

Both are for the exit - that much has been clear for a while. Imbula would have gone in January as well, if the deal didn't fall through (when we changed the terms, it was alleged). How much we get and what we do with the proceeds (and even who spends it!) are the bigger issues right now. How come some players are given time to regain or find form and others aren't? Hughes is ruthless when it suits.

The Sun also mentioned Affelay/Ireland/Muniesa/Joselu and Wollschied on their way.

Looks like a total new squad in the summer. Given, Haugaard, Bardsley, Johnson, Wollscheid, Muniesa, Whelan, Adam, Affellay, Ireland, Imbula, Walters, Crouch, Joselu, Bojan.
Then Bony, possibly Indi, won't be here
Injury prone Shaq might be looked at to be offloaded. That's some transition which won't be happening in one window.

We haven't a snow balls chance in hell of unloading Imbula. Not even on a 'free', no one would match his wages so he would be in his rights to just sit. There are nearly 5 long years left on his contract. This was a signing of eye-watering stupidity

When was it earlier this season that Imbula had a great game? One a season. 18 million.

The other side to this is that the transfer team are are no doubt itching to go to the Board and say 'please can we have some big money for a new, dynamic, young midfield player?' but they can't since the answer will be 'what the heck happened to the £18.3 million player we spent last January for this exact purpose?'. The Imbula signing is a problem with no good answer, not one that that doesn't have a very painful human side anyway.

If I were a chairman I'd look into any prospective manager's fridge as part of the interview process.
"Mark, you've mainly got in here a selection of cheeses from home and abroad, many of which are dried out. There's also some chorizo which is on the turn and a tub of caviar which has got mould in it. Would you like to tell us about that?"

I'm beginning to think something seriously bad has happened with Imbula, like a disciplinary thing which the club has kept internal. There's no other way to make it all add up imo.

The Sentinel do seem to have been briefed the same over the last few weeks, so don't suppose there is anything new or earth-shattering. And Torino seem to have thought they had an Imbula deal done with an option to buy for 10m euros before we moved the goalposts on deadline day. But as has been said, with Bojan on 70k until 2020 and Imbula on 70k until 2021, a desire to shift them and successfully shifting them (especially Imbula) are 2 different things. Can't for the life of me pinpoint a team that might a.) want and b.) have the cash to take Imbula. I am surprised about Johnson though. Hughes hinted that we had the option of extending it and that's the reason we were not interested in selling to West Ham-but If we're keeping Bardsley as a solid back-up, it's the perfect chance to move on from an injury-prone soon-to-be 33-year-old. If we really did turn down £3-4m from West Ham,it's looking like an error No mention of Adam either? Wonder if we've quietly already given him the extra year? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/bojan-could-headline-major-departures-from-stoke-city/story-30152733-detail/story.htmlStoke City will listen to offers for Bojan at the end of the season when he could lead a major exodus from the bet365.No purchase option has been agreed with Mainz, but the club's hierarchy will consider any serious bids in the next transfer window.
www.stokesentinel.co.uk/stoke-city-reject-loan-offer-for-giannelli-imbula/story-30099377-detail/story.htmlOnly a successful and sustained return to the starting line-up between now and the end of the season will prevent Stoke seeking a buyer in the summer.

Imbula - a successful and sustained return to the starting line up - how's that going to happen when he doesn't even get off the bench.

Doesn't make a blind bit of sense to me - 1. No one will pay a transfer fee that would cover even half our outgoings on these two. 2. No one will meet their current wage deal so why should they go. 3. Johnson is part of the age problem and has an injury record that is poor and only going to get worse.
It's going to be a difficult summer and I fear it could break whatever spirit is left in this squad.

Best suggestion imo is to get Imbula out on loan - unless we can sell him - knowing that we will have to subsidise his wages. He will either benefit from regular playing time (can we put that in a loan contract?) and return to develop here or we have to take the loss. Should he be getting game time in the U23s? A happy / settled dressing room is important

But why do we keep signing damaged goods ie players with [problems be it injuries or out of form etc. We pay mega bucks for plauers and sit them on the bench. Diouf will run all day but cant get a game..males you wonder who is signing these players.i would only sign players who have played in Prem.

Something has happened on the training ground and behind the scenes. We know Bojan was becoming a pain in the ass and was pushing for a move which we gave him. Im guessing Imbula has either asked to leave or is just being a miserable git and stinking out the place with his negative attitude. We all know Imbula has potential so this is NOT football related. It has got to be an attitude thing to try and get rid of him so quick

Why? After 3 games, he can't even get on the pitch for a mid-table Bundesliga team. Bojan, certainly at the minute, clearly isn't anywhere near as good as people are making him out to be and is nowhere near as good as everyone hopes he can be.
So how do we get somebody to take over his twenty million pounds contract then?
Fuck knows! That wasn't the point of my response though.
