Apologies if this has been done before....
It seems like only 5 minutes since Sparky took over yet already he is the 4th longest serving current Premiership Manager after Wenger, Howe & Dyche. Interested to know what the average tenure of a Premiership Manager is these days. About a season I guess??

So if Wenger goes at the end of the season then Hughes will be the longest serving Premier League manager IN the Premier League (Dyche and Howe managed in the Championship) and if Notts County get relegated it will be at the oldest League club in the world with a single trophy to show for it
Not sure if that makes us a model of modest stability or one of unambitious mediocrity.

Wenger once went an entire season unbeaten in the prem and as qualified for the champions league every year without fail Howe took over his club starting the season in the bottom league with a 15 or 20 point points deduction?? and led them to the prem. Hughes is either brilliant or we are very loyal???

Heard some crazy stats on the wireless earlier that went something like this.. 4 out of the last five Prem winning managers were sacked before the end of the next season. Neither of last years domestic trophy winning managers started this season with those Clubs.
Doesn't look like success is rewarded in football management. Wenger is cleverer than one might think.

People who criticise what Stoke have achieved should be required to state what they have achieved in their lifetime. Explain! My point ku is that - criticizing a person, player, policy, decision, etc. is one thing, although personally I think it should always be done constructively with either a reason for the criticism or a suggestion of how things could be better (e.g. if you think Hughes should be sacked, I think it is apposite to suggest who should be the manager). Conversely deriding or mocking the club for its 150+ years history is another matter altogether. Firstly many clubs, indeed most clubs, have failed to achieve what Stoke have done during their history. I speak as an ex President of a small works club that plays in a minor league, of which there are thousands. Secondly during its history Stoke has had thousands of employees who have striven to do their best, whatever their role in the club. During that history the club has played at the highest league level for "most" of the time and come close to winning a major competition on a handful of occasions, actually winning just the once, which I was delighted to attend. My knee jerk reaction then to seeing some of the pejorative remarks above, is to question what qualifies them to mock the efforts of all the past servants of the club I love and respect.

I don't believe anyone is mocking what Hughes has achieved. However, I prefer to focus on what needs to be improved not what was done in the past. Leicester have just let their manager go because they aren't performing anywhere near the level of last season. That trophy looks nice in the cabinet; however, they can't sell it and put the cash in the bank because they don't own it. The league lent it to them until the end of the season. They can put a replica of the trophy in the cabinet and admire it all they want. However, it won't sell season tickets and a lot less people will be watching them on TV.

People who criticise what Stoke have achieved should be required to state what they have achieved in their lifetime. [Arguing over the quiz result and request for a rematch] Chris Finch: Right, I will throw anything you choose over this building. If I do it, we win the quiz. Right? David Brent: Yeah, so you choose anything. If he can throw it over, we've won the champagne. And that's it. And that's the real quiz. Choose one thing. Ricky: You really are a couple of sad little men, aren't you? Gareth: Oh yeah, they're sad little men. He's thrown a kettle over a pub. What have you ever done?

I'm chuffed our Chairman's vote of confidence actually meant something. And though we may be swimming against the tide it seems we've chosen a longer term model of stability and continuity and hopefully an environment where talent can be developed and youth can break through. Rather than short termism, concentrating on generating funds to buy success. Feels to me we're getting closer to getting the balance right than many of our competitors.

Interested to know what the average tenure of a Premiership Manager is these days. About a season I guess?? Isn't the average tenure of a manager in Britain something like 18 months? I vaguely recall reading an article about it all at one stage. Hughes has done well at Stoke and converted us into a top-half Premier League side. I have seen a style of football and quality of player over the last four years that I never thought I would witness back 20 years ago when we were slogging it in the lower leagues. Hopefully we can keep building - I'm pretty happy with the job Hughes has done here so far!

Methinks you have forgotten the Autoglass Trophy - we've won it two times! Didn't we also win the watney Mann Anglo Scottish thingy once? Almost right. But no involvement with the Jocks. It was known as Watney Mann Invitation Cup or simply The Watney Cup. 2 teams from each of the 4 divisions that had scored the most goals, excluding any promoted teams, or in the case of Div 1 any European qualified teams, were invited and we won it in 1973 beating Hull 2-0 in a single game at The Vic. It was really a bit of a pre season Mickey Mouse affair and only ran for 4 years. This would have been as a result of 72/73 season, as obviously 71/72 season was the League Cup win, therefore we wouldn't have been allowed to play, but 72/73 we won nowt and finished a lowly 15th, but scored 61 goals along the way, beating Arsenal, who were 2nd and no Cups but they only scored 57 goals, and for the record the other team from Div 1 were West Ham Utd who scored 67 and finished 6th..

18 months sounds about right.
When you look at clubs like Sunderland, Newcastle ( I know they are championship temporarily) Palace, Swansea. They seem to change about every 6 months and yet don't ever improve as a result. Even the likes of Chelsea, Man U, Man City & Liverpool have all had a big turn over in the last few seasons. I think only the 20 plus years that Wenger has been at Arsenal, helps move the average to 18 months ish. But if you took him out of the equation and averaged the remainder, I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhere around a year in reality.
Whilst I was very underwhelmed when Hughes was appointed ( I was when Pulis came the second time aswell! ) he has won me over completely and I think we are very lucky to have him.
Yes we need to keep building but i'm not sure we are going to be challenging the mega rich top six anytime soon if i'm being totally honest. I would love us to do a Leicester of course, but that probably happens once in a lifetime and probably never to a team like lil ol Stoke.

Hughes is the 2nd longest currently serving manager with the same club after Wenger.
If Wenger goes at the end of this season Hughes will be the longest serving current manager with the same club - in his 5th consecutive season from 2017-18.
Is that correct?
