That's a bit of a harsh description of him. That said, he'll be 79 when he watches the next inauguration in 2021 from his care home The conclusion of the Mueller investigation could see the present POTUS watching the 2021 inauguration from a jail cell

Is the issue here that Sanders is 77 or that he's a socialist??
Hmmm, I wonder.

His policies really aren't that mad. It's amplified even more by the fact it's in the US. National health service, minimum wage that allows people to live, gun control, police and prison reform, cut downs on big business interference. All pretty standard for a country that wants to look after its citizens properly.

The US isn't anywhere near accepting socialist policies, even those with a relatively small 's'.

Financially at least. I'd kill for him to be a british politician

He is a classic champagne socialist. His mum and dad never had a proper job, and he sits atop a massive inheritance which he turned into a fortune through capitalism, bought a private jet through capitalism, and owns three houses... All whilst talking like some Red-flag-flyinh prole. The bloke's a hypocrite of the highest order, unfortunately we already have hundreds of those in our cancerous system. (This isn't an endorsement for Trump either)

Possibly the new Bronx representative Ocasio Cortez, but she's too new to run for president.

Everything I've found says his father was a Polish immigrant that worked as a paint salesman, and that Bernie grew up in a rent-controlled apartment. At the end of the day, I don't really care if he grew up rich or not, as long as he sticks to his positions, which he has as a mayor and a senator. If I'm going to pay taxes I'd much rather they went to programs like Medicare for all and tuition than more tax breaks for billionaires like the Republicans want.

Apparently once you start earning over a certain amount (no-one has ever given me a definitive figure on what that amount is) then you should instantly change your political opinion on everything, otherwise you're a hypocritical wanker. It's political discussion in 2019. It's brilliant.

It's political discussion in 2019. It's brilliant. That's an incredibly childish and reductive way of looking at my comment. His hypocrisy stems from blaming all society's ills on the 1% whilst quite clearly being part of this 1% and not leading by example. He could quite comfortably opt for the voluntary route and gift more of his own personal wealth to the government rather than call for it to be made compulsory, but will he ever do that? You know as well as I do the answer to that. It's the same appalling argument that socialists of any income level give all the time. "Well I'd be happy to pay more taxes if blah blah blah". Well fucking do it then. They never take responsibility or take the initiative, everything has to be made mandatory with the threat of government-sponsored violence behind it and for everyone, or they won't do it at all.

US politics is screwed no matter who is in power. Unless personal interests are at least curbed in some way. Have a listen to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez go some way to showing that US politics is corrupt from the bottom to the top. They are all on the take

According to this link his net worth is 2 million dollars: www.thestreet.com/lifestyle/bernie-sanders-net-worth-14678955While that's far more then I'll ever see in my life, I would also guess it puts him nowhere near the top 1%. According to this article, in 2016 he was giving about 5% of his earnings to charity. www.nonprofitpro.com/article/how-much-do-the-presidential-candidates-give-to-charity/ So it appears he's also doing some voluntary donations, as well as calling for the rich to get taxed more - which will then presumably see his tax increase as well. Surely the point of trying to make it compulsory through increased taxation is that it will see a lot more money raised by the treasury than if one person voluntarily gives his money away. I would hazard a guess that a 1% tax increase for the top 1% would generate a lot more money than if Bernie Sanders gave every single dollar he has to the treasury.

It's fine if you do, it's good to know who the pro-authoritarian exortionists are amongst us.
