So your view is to give up? I don't think any rational person believes that guns can be removed from American society. To me there is a simple logic in attempting to restrict gun ownership rather than making it easier to own guns which is exactly what Trump did when he gained power. How is removing the need for background checks a good idea (including a mental health check)? There are plenty of guns in Switzerland, but they are far more controlled. Americans will always have guns, I see no reason why it should be possible to legally buy an assault rifle in many States including Florida without any records. Of course I don't think you should 'give up', I just don't think the answer is trying to stop selling them when there are already hundreds of millions of guns in circulation. Most people tend to say something along the lines of "I want my gun to protect my house/family", so say fine, you can keep your guns to protect your house/family, but start having serious laws about carrying guns outside. No-one needs to take a gun with them when they go to buy some bog roll, no-one needs to carry a gun when they're hanging around the streets at midnight, so start doing 'stop & search', but have serious sentences that are actually enforced. No second chances, no exceptions. ... But of course it wont happen. People on one side will start screaming about "It's my right to carry my gun", and people on the other side, who claim to want guns off the streets, will start crying racism as soon as any non-white people start being searched & banged up. There's no real will from either side to truely get guns off the streets, they just use it for bullshit politics. (Look at Spits post for a typical example, only concerned with certain types of gun crime. His little website has zero gun related deaths in Chicago this year, unyet the actual figure, upto last Sunday, was 55! Fifty-five gun deaths so far this year, JUST in Chicago. There'll be similar numbers for Washington, Baltimore, Philidelphia etc... But as I said, there's no true will there to end gun violence, people just like to use it for political point scoring reasons)

If they would let my wife and daughter carry a gun here I would be happier about their safety.
The wife is petite and now 55 an easy target at all times for every type of low life.
The daughter is in an all girl relationship and travels the world on holidays, they wouldn't stand a chance against a man in a physical fight.
Now tooling yourself up like Rambo , well that's another issue and totally OTT. One small pistol should be all anyone needs for self defence.
It's that Rambo style weapon selling in the states allied to pathetic parenting and ease of purchase that leads to the mass murders.
What kind of parent allows a teenage boy to have a rifle? Mine went mad when I had a .22 air pistol.
The kids in the school new who the nutter was long ago and it's them that they need to take more notice of, same here tbh the kids always know where the danger lies. Trouble is no one ever asks them.

18 school shootings in 2018? #FakeNewsThe murderer had pics wearing a MAGA hat and trained with white nationalists. Impartial, sources are difficult to find on partisan subject in the US, but The National Review makes Fox News look like a bunch of Pinkos. Ah I see, don't know much about them to be fair. The link I provided to them though has plenty of pdf files linked, which show documents from some the groups mentioned. Seems to show enough that Trump didn't infact just rip up some laws & allow every mental case in the land to get hold of a gun. The Washington Post run a similar story to the one I linked. It's a specific type of 'mental illness' which got removed, which had the backing of plenty of 'disability groups'.

I have no doubt the two sides put their own slant on things, but the "18 school shootings this year" was clearly used to try & make people think it was 18 cases of some student walking into the school & gunning down a load of pupils. That, even from your link, quite clearly isn't the case. It's #FakeNews at its finest, published just at the right time as most people wont be arsed to check & just assume it means the worst (Or whatever suits their 'side' the best)

Where did I deny he wore a MAGA hat? I've posted a link to a journo from the Los Angeles Times, and the actual leader of the White Nationalist group in question saying it's a load of #FakeNews. How does that make me a racist or white nationalist apologist?

I'm not convinced that a headline that was wrong for saying 18 shootings when it should have said 17 shootings is fake news at it's finest. It's certainly an inaccuracy but 17 shootings in schools is not a reason to dismiss the story as fake. When you're putting that headline out straight after some scumbag has just walked into a school & murdered a bunch of pupils I think there's a clear agenda at play when you have... Feb. 14, 2018 - Parkland, Florida A 19-year-old former student entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and opened fire, killing 17 and injuring multiple others. The school was put into lockdown. The incident has been ranked as one of the top 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history.Put in the same bracket as... February 5, 2018 – Oxon Hill, Maryland An Oxon Hill High School junior was shot twice in a school parking lot, during what police say was an attempted robbery. The 17-year-old later recovered. The shooting took place on school grounds, but after school hours, AP reported.
February 8, 2018 - New York, NY A 17 year-old student fired a gun, hitting the floor of a classroom at Metropolitan High School. Police took the student in custody, but no injuries were reported, ABC7 reported.
January 22, 2018 – Gentilly, LA An unknown person in a pickup truck drove past The NET Charter High School and fired shots at students standing in the campus parking lot. One boy was injured, but not by gunfire. Two students were arrested on suspicion and the school was temporarily placed into lockdown, according to the The Times-Picayune.
January 10, 2018 - San Bernadino, CA Gunshots came through a window at California State University. The university immediately went into lockdown. No suspects were identified and no injuries were reported, AP reported.
January 4, 2018 - Seattle, WA Shots were fired by an unidentified shooter into an administrative office at New Start High School. The school went into lockdown, though no injuries were reported, according to KIRO 7.
January 26, 2018 - Dearborn, MI A fight broke out during a basketball game at Dearborn High School. School officials removed the two persons involved, who were not students. Shots were later fired in the parking lot, but no injuries were reported, according to WXYZ Detroit.
January 25, 2018 - Mobile, AL - A disagreement between two 16-year-old students at Murphy High School escalated when one of them pulled out a handgun. The student with the handgun then fled school administrators, who tried to calm him, firing four or five times into the air. Nobody was injured, according to Fox 10. The suspect was taken into custody and charged for multiple offenses, including possession of a weapon on school property.
February 5, 2018 - Maplewood, MN A third-grader at Harmony Learning Center pressed the trigger on a school liaison officer's gun. Although the weapon was outfitted with a trigger guard, it discharged and hit the floor. No injuries were reported.
January 10, 2018 - Denison, TX A student at Greyson College picked up a gun, belonging to an advisor. She discharged the weapon, believing it was not loaded and shot through the wall. There were no injuries and no charges filed, KXII reported.
January 3, 2018 - St. Johns, Michigan A 31-year-old man died by suicide in the parking lot of East Olive Elementary School. There were no students or staff at the scene, because the school had been closed for seven months, WILX reported. This is the incident Everytown decided to remove from their list of school shootings.Come on, Rich, you're not seriously telling me that, although these are serious incidents in their own right, are in anyway comparable to what had happened just a few hours earlier?

Is there a cut off point for deaths before it matters? Sigh. I've already said they're serious incidents in their own right, but don't you find it even slightly odd that they'd (A bunch of stories where in most no-one even got injured, and in some were outside of school time, and in one the school had been shut for seven months!) get released within hours of an actual mass-shooting? All put under the 'shock' headline of '18 school shootings in 2018!'? How many people on Facebook & Twitter have 'liked', 'shared', & 're-tweeted' this 'story'? Thousands & thousands of people, with a reach of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people who're now sitting there thinking this is now the 18th occassion where someone has walked into a school & brutally gunned down dozens of pupils. I don't know what else to say to you, Rich. If you think some 30-odd year old commiting suicide outside a school which has been shut for seven months is the same as someone walking into a school filled with students & murdering 17 of them, then we're obviously not going to agree. But hey, that's fine, we're all entitled to have whatever opinion we like.

Whilst we are going round in circles, the fact remains that the most powerful man in the world is doing sod all to tighten up an already slack system. How about he starts by closing the Gun Show Loophole? If you're unfamiliar with the loophole, it allows the sale of guns via a private sale without the need for background checks or paperwork. It's effectively seeing an advert in The Sentinel for an assault rifle, giving the seller a call, going to his or her house, buy the weapon and take it home. A republican President has more chance of getting that bill through both houses than any Democrat. I'd like to see this new broom President take a bold first step, rather than do the same as his predecessors.

You got busted for spreading #FakeNews from your beloved MSM, who failed to do any actual investigation. FakeNews which people like myself pointed out to you was #FakeNews. I supply you with a journalist from the Los Angeles Times showing it was #FakeNews. You call me a "Racist & white nationalist apologist". (Despite me never trying to defend what the scumbag had done, all I was doing was pointing out your #FakeNews) The next day the MSM, who you trust with everything they say, correct their previous stance & admit that what they had pushed the day before was indeed #FakeNews. Rather than saying "Sorry TDC, you were right as usual" You instead tell me to "fuck off with my Neo-Nazi sympathizing shit"... Where on Earth have I done anything of the sort? Nowhere on this, or any other thread about this incident, have I in any way, shape or form tried to defend, be an apologist for, or sympathetic towards the absolute wanker who carried out this awful act. You've made yourself look a bit daft over it, mate. The MSM duped you into believing that the scumbag had been training with a white nationalist group. There's zero evidence of this being the case. Just be a man & admit you were wrong. It's no big deal, we all get things wrong sometimes. You certainly weren't alone... 41,000 Retweeted this #FakeNews. Lets say they have 100 'followers' each who saw it. That's 4.1 million people. Just 4,000 retweets of the truth. So that's 400,000 people who now know the truth (That people like myself told) and 3.7 million who believe the #FakeNews you spread.

Twitter is news if the official news agencies post on there.
TDC's example of the AP is perfect. I consider AP credible but even after they hold their hand up to a mistake it's too late.
At the moment what's more attractive to the Liberal Left? Yet another sleazy tweet about playboy bunnies and Trump or the Attorney General of the USA saying that after almost a year and a couple of hundred million dollars the FBI have found zero colusion between Trump and "the Russians".
Surely Twitter could add a retraction algorithm when if a post is retracted by its original author that retraction flows through all the replies and especially retweets?
