1. Palacios is undoubtedly the worst.
2. Danny Collins was a third division standard left back at best. Never had a single good league game for us.
3. Dave Kitson was our record signing, proved time and again that he was terrific in the role he was asked to play, but mostly decided that he couldn't be bothered. He has subsequently spent his media career as the Secret Footballer badmouthing the club.
4. Shola Ameobi - half a million pounds for nothing. The moment that he was carried off injured against Coventry was the moment our promotion bid recovered.
5. Tuncay. A waste of time, money and effort for everybody involved, apart from Lucky Seven taxis.
Bonus mention: Michael Owen - Swapping Ricardo Fuller for Michael Owen is in the top ten of Pulis' stupid decisions. Fuller was the difference between our best days under Pulis and the stuff we played with Crouch, Walters and Adam. Had Ric been properly utilised that season, Pulis may not have lost his job at the end of it; scary thought, eh?

He had the ability just look at the goal against United. Saying that he didn't do very well if anything at Bolton.

I didn't rate him, but another manager might have found a role for him somewhere. He cost a lot of money for what was ultimately just a lot of aggravation and unrest.

I suppose there's crap signings that had litttle impact like Palacios and Arismendi, and then the crap signings that cost us points, like Kitson and Collins that you have to think about.

Edu, Ness, Cuvellier, Jones are up there for me. Jones had so much potential but ended up being another lazy arsed, overpaid one in five goal getter. All my other choices have been mentioned. Top five fir me probably Palacios, Arismendi, Shea, Owen and Jones.

To me, failed signings come under three headings. 1. Those that really should have worked: Palacios is top of this list. 2. Those that were probably worth the gamble but didn't come off: I'd put Tonge in this list. 3. Those mysteries that nobody could see working: Arismendi, for example.

I still maintain that Palacios was a good signing, he was just damaged goods after the death of his brother I think?
Ruined him as a player. Really big shame as well because he was great before the whole saga.

Really big shame as well because he was great before the whole saga. He came across as wounded soul in all honesty but for the money spent, games played and comments made about the wind it was inevitable Stoke fans would put him on this list. I agree though at Wigan and Spurs he was a beast of a player.

There are different categories but here goes...
1) Sonko - epitomised by that penalty he gave away against Blackburn. So late that it still hasn't even happened 2) Danny Collins - just wasn't ever any good at all. Epitomised by that penalty he gave away against Bolton. So late that it makes Sonko's seem a well time effort 3) Maurice Edu - maybe one night, TP, Coates and Scholesy went mental, drank 7 litres of vodka, smoked a huge bag of weed, snorted a line of coke the length of the pitch then signed Maurice Edu 4) Michael Tonge - I wasn't so much against his signing, but his contract extension has GOT to make this list 5) Wilson Palacios - worth a gamble but you know you're fucked when you're left out because it's too windy. You're either really that unfit, that shit or just a massive cunt

Brek Shea by a country mile - nowhere near a Premier League player
Anthony Pulis - just wrong
Dishonourable mentions to players a few seasons too late:
Jonathan Woodgate Eidur Gudjohnson Michael Owen
I can't include Wilson Palacious - can't help feeling really sorry for him given what happened. Being physically shot happens to all players - you just don't buy them. Mental scars are far harder to assess in terms of the long term impact.

I've started my own SCFC YouTube channel and I'm trying to engage the fans on this forum. If people aren't interested (Which is there preference) then that's fine but I'm going to give it a go. I'm making top 5s every week and the subject will obviously change every week. If anybody has any other suggestions as to what they want/don't want then they can let me know.

Palacios is an interesting one.
While he undoubtedly turned out to be dogshite, pretty much everyone agreed when we signed him that he was the 'next level' midfielder we needed. People were much happier with his signing than that of Crouch's, if memory serves correctly.
So while he'll make many peoples' lists as one of our worst signings, it's worth remembering that other signings were much more pointless in terms of our needs at the time e.g. Olofjnjana, Andrew Davies, Brek Shea, Woodgate.
Same goes for Henri Camara - he was actually a decent signing in theory, it just didn't work out.
