Can someone tell me why the railway line running close by the ground cannot be used to alleviate the traffic issue Is it an investment issue or what ?

because we're not that forward thinking off the pitch, when it comes to commercial ventures.
If we were on the ball, we could have a siding type station, with shops, refreshments etc, and possibly use the grounds car park as a pay and display on non match days, to get a tiny bit more coin in etc.
speculate to accumulate etc

I suppose there would be the small matter of building a railway station and then operating it for which the investment case based on 20 odd Stoke games a year on which a couple of thousand folks are willing to stump up about £5 just wouldn't stack up or even come within a country mile of it.
As a comparison point it's £2,700 a year for a season ticket for my 30 minute journey in to London and Southern Rail claim they can't make a penny piece on those kind of charges. I appreciate their staff are on strike more often than they are at work but even so I can't see this one flying.

Stadium use for non football events etc We've got to look more professional. A 2 quid bus from stoke station on those archaic double deckers going through stoke town centre will do no one any favours in NFL, with their draught system, it means not all the big teams get the best players, they get spread around. As a result, cottage industries spring up by like minded entrepreneurs to cater for the sudden influx of player money. No one has invested anything in stoke, in fact, i think it's gone backwards If you build a (mini) station, you can build shops. You build shops, you create jobs and you create wealth (to an extent). It breeds positivity and growth you could argue Imbula turns up less than 20 times a year and he was 18m (i said that to get a reaction)

Why would people want to pay to park at the ground on non match days when there's nothing up there. What shops are gonna want go up there with Longton/Trentham and Festival park close by never mind the city centre. As for the train station we have the west coast mainline running past which Virgin won't want tampering with.

I've never understood why people can't see it would be a waste of time and money. why bother with Champagne when you can have lemonade? i don't want Stoke to 'make do' i think we should be leading the way, clearing the path etc. Go to any ground abroad and you'll see how woefully small time we are when it comes to the ground, local transport and amenities we're filthy rich as a club. Build a mini station and look more professional. By doing so, you can get more events (non stoke match related) to happen at the ground during off season. we should invest, build, grow commercially and start looking the part

Virgin don't own the line do they? all you'd have to do is build a small station for people to get on and off, that takes 2 minutes. They can replace the time table with a 2 min stop on an event day. Get the govt to say its in their interest to stop or they don't get any more subsidies etc i'm just trying to think of opportunities to expand. If we stand still, we rot and go nowhere. it's a way of thinking in stoke that drives me mad. "Why bother doing 'x' when we already have a half arsed version of it, and that will do" no wonder the commercial dept is dire, Keyrings and shite mugs. we have to think bigger

There are a number of houses going up on the land opposite screw fix. Couple that with existing estates in Trentham blurton and the area then there could be an argument for one say opposite a screw fix. And if you at the line there are still parts of the old colliery siding in place for a passing loop. However considering we have one of the few city centres without a station I don't hold up much hope of one in the area near the brit. The local authority would rather spunk £30 odd million on awful offices in Hanley rather than fix the transport infrastructure.

If someone was to open a factory/distribution centre that required a rail terminal then the club could potentially contribute to the cost and share the benefits on a matchday. But as a pure commercial venture it wouldn't be cost effective and a complete non starter....

(haha) let the club (re Coates family) do it, and the club can be the landlord if theres a population, then more shops needed etc.. we could even fill in another corner it's such an opportunity to grow for everything. Even if you started to build more drive throughs, a few more bars, a mini cinema, people will go success breeds success, money makes money frustrates me the way everything is half baked in stoke, even with best intentions, it always seems a bit on the cheap side, and it could be better

Just out of curiosity.
Let's say someone stumps up a few million to put a rail siding and a station in. At astronomical cost, Network Rail/Virgin put in all the measures to schedule their mainline service to fit in around the extra trains servicing this station. Several hundreds of people get onto these trains after a game.
Where are they going to get off?

Cost is one thing, as is who would fund the station. The other main thing is that other than match days it would no where near be economically viable. The station at The Ricoh only has a couple of trains per match day (both rugby & football) so the cost would not be justified. It's a real shame that it was not considered to be a future option when the stadium was built, but with regards railways & The Potteries is a story of what might have been all over. Imagine if the Loop had never closed....Hanley Station, Fenton...even Normacot still open...🙄

The club commissioned a feasibility study into it with B Biscuit Enterprises (BBE). It made for concerning reading as it predicted the club will be relegated this season, or next, or the one after, or the one after that. Citing similar situations at Charlton, Coventry and Leeds the recommendation to ease congestion was to move fixtures to Tuesdays and Thursday mornings at 11.00am to avoid conflict with local traffic. This being a temporary measure until gates fall below 12,000 again as predicted.

Two far easier ways to relieve congestion
1 Have an exit for cars parked behind the Boothen End Direct on to the A50. Cost minimal (get some Gypos in). Having to drive right around the stadium is ludicrous
2 Load 2/3 shuttle buses at the same time Put a couple of extra buses on

Every town had its own station,plus ones at Meir,Normacot and more.Why were they closed no one used them.When the ground was built the railways were private,so would a private company spend millions for a station,which would be used 20 times a year.We used to walk to the Vic from Longton,nobody walks anymore .There are more parking spaces at Stoke than any other ground in the country.If there were less then The congestion would be less.I park 10 min away,leave at full time home for 5.30.One thing the club should encourage is car sharing.What is worse I have been told is The lights on the flyover are not controlled anymore because of complaints from businesses on the estate.
