There's a lightbulb that's just not turning on upstairs for some reason. Playing to his maximum, Imbula is one of the best midfielders in the league, the trouble with him his he constantly looks like a spaced out stoner on the pitch, watching the world go by.It's clearly not an ability issue, and I don't think it's a coaching issue as it's clear we've tried everything with him, it's on Gianelli this one is, he needs to shake himself out of the funk he's in or his career will have hit its peak here, which for a player of his ability would be very sad indeed. That one sentence sums up Imbula and what a brilliant descriptive sentence it is

1 year in to a 5 1/2 year contract on an £18.3m transfer puts his book value at £15m. Given the £/€ rate at the moment a €15m price tag would mean a write off of a little over £2m for the club. Something they could live with? If that is correct we should snap their hand off at the elbow, 12 months after he joined he has gone backwards at an alarming rate, you could count the number of games he has influenced on one hand. He has made the right noises publically if you like he has talked the talk the problem has been when it has come down to walking the walk. All I hear is about his undoubted potential, well if it is undoubted why is he not able to produce it in a game on a regular basis ? , seems to me he is a bottler who has pretty much thrown the towel in on our club.

I just don't see how giving up on him doesn't lead to the manager being sacked or a complete overhaul of the recruitment side of things. Because everyone makes mistakes even the best. TP joined us when we were nailed on to drop to the third tier of football and left us half way up the premiership but £10 mill for palacious was ridiculous Even Sir alex dropped the odd bollock on transfers The name of the game is to get more right than wrong and the pizza boys can say imbula was a flop but grant and bmi were hits.

We're dreaming if we think we're going to get £13m for him, aren't we? Why not ? Players elsewhere have not " hit it off " at one club but still hold their fee as it doesn't make them bad players Schneidelin and Depay are two off the top of my head Have to agree. How about Jordan Fuc*in Rhodes! Epic failure and still going for £10m!

Getting €15m is just the maths of (almost) balancing the books. Asking for it as the fee to conclude a loan deal is one thing, getting it is another. Over to you Mr Scholes.

Imbula hmmm. Terrible disappointment, I'm surprised he featured since his Wolves Debacle. Anyone remember the interview with Charlie Adam after his arrival? They asked Adam how he felt about the new arrival. Adam, being the true professional, said it was a great boost for the team and they looked forward to competition for places. The pundits chortled at the time about the statement, but it looks like Charlie has had the last laugh. Looking at Charlie yesterday he was every inch what every Stoke fan wants from an attacking midfielder. Getting in people's faces, tough tackles, neat passes and a few shots to boot. He even had time to do the "rabbit" gesture to one of their midfielders who had obviously had been giving it large. None of those attributes Imbula has, I can't see him getting in anyone's face, let alone returning some abuse.
I like the stoned analogy above, he seems just in a world of his own at times. If we liken it to a soap then, Charlie Adam is Zak Dingle, always involved and always having something to say or offer. Meanwhile Imbula is propped up at the bar, occasionally saying something, but barely noticed in any episode.
If he didn't want to be that involved, he could always follow along the lines of Whelan, quiet and efficient, making few errors.
We need to take a good offer for the guy, and I would have been more than 1/2 tempted with the 10M being thrown around. It would have a been a small loss for premier standards and got the ball rolling for someone else.

If Hughes was a Harry Redknapp type of manager; now that it is clear we'll be finishing 10-12th he'd play Imbula every game, loudly exclaim that he is a brilliant player and try to offload him in the summer - that is our best bet.
As Paul Spencer says, you'd think he would be ok with a beast CDM behind him but something else is wrong, he just has not integrated and is going through the motions like a little homesick fucking baby

I've given up on most so called Stoke fans. Give the lad a chance for fucks sake. He's had a chance. I think they've explained very clearly what they want from him. Porto fans basically said he is one thick fucker. Talented, massive potential, but what a waste of space. This one is almost Palaciousesque in scale. Agree. His reaction on signing his contract at Clayton made me think "steady on son" Having said that he had me purring after a few games and genuinely thought we had got a quality midfielder. Perhaps Sparky or one of his staff should be getting in his head and trying to sort it out (I'm convinced that is where the problem is) Thick as pig shit? Lazy bone idle fucker? Talented but mismanaged? Reckons he's made it etc? Who knows. I'm sure Sparky is asking the same questions.

It seems so, but I'm not sure if it is half the player not applying themselves and half the club wanting the finished product now or something else. His language barrier and attitude could be much better but the pedigree is there, just needs bringing out and for the money paid it should be easy to come though. It's like breaking a horse. The bastard is a stallion it is just a question of time put in over money paid it seems. Pity, as I think he can be a monster if coached right and in the right system. I think he needs to have a more free roam role and we already have Allen who is just that. We need someone who can sit and enforce but then get on the attack like Nzonzi in his best days here.

And that transfer (and Crouch's) was an anchor around his neck from that point on. We can't afford to have an 18m pound mistake. And it's not like he's the only. The last 4 windows on the whole have been poor.

Not time to give up yet. He is only young and we have seen glimpses of his quality. On top of his game he could get into virtually any team in the league bar maybe chelsea. Personally, ever since he signed he has struck me as someone who is a little shy so hides away when the going gets tough. All of the criticism does not help him however. And by his interviews whenever he is dropped he sounds genuinely disappointed and he works incredibly hard to force his way back in. It is evident he is not very good defensively. Therefore we need to find a role for him with minimal defensive responsibility where he can maximise his attacking talents. The number 10 role is perfect for him. He flourished there when we played man city last season, although we lost 4-1. Him and arnautovic were sensational that day. Or play him as one of three central midfielders, with someone to play the whelan role only more mobile to cover imbula's surging runs upfield. No one in our squad can do what he does on top of his game, and if we get him back to his form when he first joined, he could fire us to europe and we could easily get upwards of £40 million for him.
