We're dreaming if we think we're going to get £13m for him, aren't we? Why not ? Players elsewhere have not " hit it off " at one club but still hold their fee as it doesn't make them bad players Schneidelin and Depay are two off the top of my head

We're dreaming if we think we're going to get £13m for him, aren't we? When you consider that he's got a four and a half year contact with us that's worth circa £16 million to him, you would think we'd have absolutely zero chance of off loading him at that price. Realistically, we're going to have to take a 50% hit here you'd imagine. Nobody in the Prem will want him.

Players elsewhere have not " hit it off " at one club but still hold their fee Schneidelin and Depay are two off the top of my head Just think the lack of any English market for Imbula will deflate the fee. If we're looking for 8-figures, that probably restricts his European market to a dozen clubs - and you can take Porto away straight away - as well as probably all the Spanish clubs who could afford him. Only Torino seem to have been interested in Italy - and their wage budget is 32m compared to our 80m euros. Good luck to any clubs of that size fitting in his £70,000-a-week contract until 2021 into their structure. Man United lost £10m on Depay but at least he had the glitz of Man Utd on his CV - and Schneiderlin had another buyer in the inflated English market to call on to ensure the fee was extortionate. I can't see an exit strategy on this one. Marseille could be the one option now they've got cash, but they haven't appeared interested so far

Imbula sadly hasn't flourished in 2 different environments now and that surely is going to decimate his value

Imbula isn't playing (at all) and is going to have to leave the Prem. None of the European sides who would be interested in him are going to be able to afford to take over his contract and pay a big fee for him.

Maybe loaning him out to Torino and getting him in the shop window was the way to go.

Maybe loaning him out to Torino and getting him in the shop window was the way to go. The danger being that if screws up in that league too he is virtually untouchable. I have a naive hope that someone in our coaching staff can sort something and the guy is able to produce performances worthy of at least part of his undoubted potential.

It is hard to give up on him totally when you've seen what he can do. But, at the same time, hard to see Hughes giving him another run, especially now, for the first time, it's been pretty much spelt out we were willing to wash our hands of him for good on Tuesday after only 12 months. Tricky situation and hard to know what will change between now and the summer to make him a more viable target for a European club. linkThe club would have considered a permanent offer for their record £18.3m signing, but made it clear to the Italians that a loan move was not in their interest. Only a successful and sustained return to the starting line-up between now and the end of the season will prevent Stoke seeking a buyer in the summer.

As per the toe-curling numbers above, can we actually afford to give up - yet anyway?
I can envisage a top down conversation from the family to 'Mark and his team' along the lines of:
"... you flipping bought him (I'm sure St. Pete doesn't swear) ... so you 'orrible lot can get him playing properly again."
That aside, what a crying shame if we've given up on getting a tune out of him already.
Aside from a dollop of what looks like mental fortitude, he's got the full footballer's tool kit that lad. He could and should still be very good for us I hope.

You'd think 8m tops given his dramatic fall from grace, but even then his guaranteed wages here for the next 4 years would be hard to match elsewhere - think Wilson Palacios with gloves on!

There's a lightbulb that's just not turning on upstairs for some reason.
Playing to his maximum, Imbula is one of the best midfielders in the league, the trouble with him his he constantly looks like a spaced out stoner on the pitch, watching the world go by.
It's clearly not an ability issue, and I don't think it's a coaching issue as it's clear we've tried everything with him, it's on Gianelli this one is, he needs to shake himself out of the funk he's in or his career will have hit its peak here, which for a player of his ability would be very sad indeed.

I just don't see how giving up on him doesn't lead to the manager being sacked or a complete overhaul of the recruitment side of things.

I thought last night would have been a perfect game to get him on the pitch, even in the 2nd half. His ability to run with the ball, drive forward would have got us the win last night...

It looks like the Wolves game was the final straw for Bojan and Imbula with Hughes.
I am all for a manager getting tough on under-performing players, but he bloody bought him for 18m in the first place!!!!

Did you see the massive amount of space between our back 4 and the midfield last night? If he can't get a game when we've got more holes than a cheese grater it's not looking good for him is it?
He has the ability and he looks like an athlete but he just can't pull it all together for some reason, maybe it'll come in time... but at £18m for a club like Stoke you'd expect to be buying a first team shoe in, not a prospect

I think if Shaqs out on Saturday Id be tempted to bring him in for Joe Allen as he looked very tired yesterday either that or bring in Berahino. If MH doesn't think he's ready for 90 mins then a midfield of
...........Adam..........Whelan............
Affelay...........Imbula...............Arni
Playing both him and Bojan from the start was never going to work as neither have enough defensive responsibility but with Adam, Whelan and Affelay I think we could carry him defensively as he's good going forward.

I've given up on most so called Stoke fans. Give the lad a chance for fucks sake. He's had a chance. I think they've explained very clearly what they want from him. Porto fans basically said he is one thick fucker. Talented, massive potential, but what a waste of space. This one is almost Palaciousesque in scale.

Tongue in cheek, mate, but couldn't find a winky thing on my phone. I'd like us to persevere with Imbula, and as a previous poster said, last night was crying out for him.
