Well, I said I wouldn't hate 1-1 but I came away from that disappointed. We started so well (but they let us), we were mostly secure at the back, never not good to see, and of all the surprising players over 90, Charlie really did the business for me - as well as the Roboto magic . Ok, Arnie is going to have days where he can;t convert otherwise he'd be at a bigger club than Stoke but all the same, for the amount of the play we had and with an important win there for the asking - there just wasn't the next level somehow and I did feel like there was some other key Sparky could have unlocked. Still puzzling over what precisely. So a kind of lacklustre 7* from me * if you were there please

Shame he didn't switch Arnie over to the right and give NGoy a stab at the left wing for 25-30 minutes instead of the last 5.
With Berahino and Crouch in the middle, it could have reaped something, in terms of slinging in a few more crosses and feeding off knock downs, instead of Arnie chopping onto his right foot and losing some momentum

Adam, crouch, whelan and Bruno were excellent tonight Thought Allen was poor Hughes did the right thing taking Allen off.
Still gutted arnie didn't convert those guilt edge chances but at least we didn't lose thanks to granty

7* Just back thought he should have subbed Affelay at 60 mins, thought we lost momentum after half time, team line up was about right, we could have should have and deserved to win all but for the cheating cunts they called officials. Gouranga.

it should of been 3-0 at half time and their goal is offside. second half they had the ball but had one or two good chances that grant saved, and he went positive by putting 2 up top to try and win the game. cant argue with anything hes done tonight. 8

Good starting line up under the circumstances. Nothing really wrong with the subs. Good result and a good game.

6. I felt we had no balance to the side at all. Allen has been innefective for the last few games but still got the nod and again offered nothing. Affelay looked totally lost and another who offered very little imo

I was a big critic when he made me watch imbula poncing about But since the wolves game, I think there has been less messing around and more getting stuck in
I thought the players went out and gave it a good go
Enjoyed the game!

I've been one of Hughes' biggest critics, but I find some of the comments here surprisingly negative. He continued to play the formation that suits us best, and the players looked organised and clear about their roles- a massive step forward. I thought the subs were right, too. It's not Hughes' fault that Arnie's final ball and finishing are poor. And I thought Everton were as good a side as I've seen at the Betsy for a while. Overall, an entertaining game between two open, attacking sides. An enjoyable evening. 8*

They are a very good side, Everton. I thought it just showed how hard it is against a good team in the premiership. The only disappointment for me on the night, was the amount of space conceded for the cross which led to their goal. I thought in patches there was some really good build up play from both sides. I've watched it again this morning, and thought that their goalkeeper closed Arnie down really quickly on his two chances. On the night I thought he should have buried the second one, but have changed my mind having seen it again. Great to see the robot again, as I didn't have a really good view of it last night. Crouchy was IMHO excellent last night. Saido came on, and impressed me greatly. He had some lovely touches, and having not seen much of N'goy, was impressed by his little cameo. Definitely one for the future! All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll repeat though, it just shows how tough this league can be.

7 - could have been a bit braver with team selection and subs for me. We need more mobility and pace in midfield, so Allen deeper with one of Whelan/Adam and Affelay moved inside, with N'Goy on the right could have given us more "oomph". Crouchy's performance noticeably drops around the hour mark these days, so I would have liked Saido as a straight swap, with N'Goy on the right. As it was, we took off a poor Allen (correctly), but then lost the midfield when we went 4-4-2 and resorted to Charlie's long diagonals as our main attacking weapon.
First half was decent though, but Koeman's change at half time should have been countered more successfully than it was.

Given the players he had available (and the need to give Berahino no more than 30 mins) I can't argue with the starting eleven - and each of the subs made sense to me. We actually played well enough to have won comfortably but for poor finishing and a bit of bad luck. I don't understand Sal's claim that Everton "let us play well". You could argue that any team which plays well is "allowed" to do so by the opposition but that's splitting hairs. The fact is that, until Everton's controversial equaliser, we deservedly dominated the game other than scoring.
Hughes gets an 8* from me.
