Stoke beat WHU at a very rainy Old Trafford to get to Wembley. Fourth match in the tie!
I remember having my ticket in my hand and a guy pick pocketing my wallet - it contained £1 - lot of money back then for a 17 year old.
Seems so long ago but a wonderful memory.

Remember watching the highlights on sportsnight. I can hear the theme music now and the intro with the bright floodlights.

I was there, I was 11, with my great dad who passed away nearly 2 years ago. Thing I remember more than anything was all the cushions that got thrown onto the pitch after the final whistle

I remember getting to the ground without a ticket and pickpocketing this poor lad, and with the money ( a quid ) treating everyone to a fish and chip supper at Macari's fish and chip shop....Ahhhh...Busted... It wasn't there then...

I was there, as a skiving off school 15 year old. I went to all the League Cup games, starting away at Southport and ending the journey at Wembley.
I still have a diary I kept from 72, the entry for 26.01.72 simply reads "WEMBLEY!!!!!"
For March 4th (the day we won the cup) it simply reads "Stoke 2 - Chelsea 1 - The happiest day of my life!!"
Love the clip of TC smashing it in. He could hit a ball our Terry, as evidenced also by the goal he scored v Arsenal in the 5-0 win a couple of seasons earlier.

Interestingly they've found the bus used on the players return to the city from Wembley and they are going to do a re run of the original route with the squad of that time

and some people would rather have mid table safety than win the league like Leicester did and possibly have a relegation scrap the following season, you can't take away that glory of winning a league or a cup

I was 13 and in the United Road Paddock with my Dad. I remember driving from Sandbach and the queue on the A34 started outside the King William pub in Wilmslow.....took yonks. After the game we stopped on one of the side roads for the biggest Meat and Potato I've ever had in my life and eat it in the rain on the way back to the car, happy days.

And then we had to queue for tickets! When the Wembley tickets were to be sold, I remember finishing watching a Saturday game and joining the queue after the final whistle!
My god that was a cold, cold long night! We were eventually locked in to the Butler Street car park and spent the night next to little fires. I think they opened the turnstiles just a bit earlier than planned for us?

Can remember watching the highlights on 'Sportsnight with Coleman' and my Owd man coming in from the game about halfway through.I asked him if we had won and he told me to watch it and see. The beaming smile on his face said it all.

After the game we stopped on one of the side roads for the biggest Meat and Potato I've ever had in my life and eat it in the rain on the way back to the car, happy days. I too was 13 and with my dad. I'd sort of forgotten the traffic but the A34 was clogged. We were absolutely soaked, I'd broken my ankle playing rugby not long before so went with a plaster cast on and a walking stick. Some little toe rag from West Ham kicked the stick from me afterwards but I just picked it up and carried on. We were finally on our way to Wembley and nobody was going to ruin it for us. Great night, only to be bettered a few weeks later when we lifted the trophy. I really hope that the current generation can see us win some silverware. The memories are undimmed even 45 years later.

Was it in these games/replays where one match was on telly and West Ham were awarded a penalty that Gordon Banks saved? And also I remember Banks being injured and they showed a quite close-up picture of him being treated.....this necessitated him pulling his shorts down a little, and he looked behind him at the camera and gave a saucy wink! Sure it was the same game.
