Hughes' only 'problem' is he has made finishing top half look so easy; everyone seems to expect it as a matter of course now. Anyone asking for him to go during this season is mad. Why chuck away what will be a comfortable mid table finish to open up a real possibility of relegation if the new manager ends up not gelling with the new squad? Whether he's done all he can at the club and if it's time to get a new manager (similar to Pulis really) in the summer is open to debate. But, can anyone think of a manager who could take our club with its small budget and push us on to say a team who is guaranteed 7th with a chance of flirting with the top 6, or achieve the same in the league with a more than a semi final appearance once in 4 years in the cups? The only suggestions I've seen are Dyche, which seems absurd to me, and Villas Bollas, but he strikes me as man who'd rather earn easier money around Europe or China than try to build something at a mid table Premier League team. For me the only real solution if we are serious about pushing on is spending big. Foreign billionaire takeovers seem to work much less often than people think though, with Man City, Chelsea and Southampton being probably the only 3 that have left the club in a better long term place than before the buy out. Personally I think the fan base would be a lot happier if they just enjoyed the ride instead of spending half their time watching the matches finding someone to blame for a supposed crisis. We will lose by 4 goals to teams who can afford to spend 30 million on a player and not be too upset out it doesn't work out on occasion, sometimes we will beat them (As for Palace, surely we can forgive one pasting by a mid table team considering we've done it to others before?) It's just the way it is and isn't going to change any time soon, because believe it or not there aren't millions of people around the world buying a Stoke City shirt with Allen on the back. Anyway, enough chatter for one day. If Mark Hughes goes in the summer (which seems to be a popular move from all the online posts I've seen) I for one will be grateful to him for what he's done in his 4 seasons here. And I just hope that some serious thought has gone into where to move on to from there, as I can't really see much room for progress myself without at least 100 million being spent. Excellent post and reading that just makes me want Hughes to stay more then ever!

It was a very good win and, more importantly, a very much-needed win. I don't want to sound negative immediately after a win of that nature, but it still doesn't change a great deal for me. We've still only beaten Watford, Burnley and the three worst teams in the division all season. I thought that we would push on when we went on our little run in October and won three in a row and stayed unbeaten in six. But we didn't manage to do that. We seriously do need to push on now and take a healthy number of points out of West Brom, Everton and Palace, or we won't stay in the top half for very long and all the criticisms will come straight back again. Yeah, ... we only seem to win against the teams below us. What a disaster! We're 9th for a reason ... Could it be that at this moment in time, the 8 teams above are playing better than us? Yeah! It was very naive of me to suggest that only beating five or six of the worst teams in the division all season was not a good sign and that we might not stay in the top half if we didn't improve! How dare I suggest suggest something blindingly obvious? You honestly cannot make any criticism on this board without being accused of being negative. The warning signs have been there all season.

I don't want to sound negative But I will anyway !! I didn't want to sound negative, I deliberately made the point that it was a very satisfying win. But we didn't improve, we didn't push on, and we didn't stay in the top half for very long. How dare I state something that was very obvious even three months ago??
