I thought Benteke may have been a viable transfer option when he was made available by Liverpool, but I'm guessing the asking price was a little to high at that moment in time. With him potentially being floated about by Palace I still think he may be a good fit. The price is likely to be high again (Fee & Wages) but so somewhat it sounds will Berahino, whom there is big apparent interest in again. Big, powerful athletic centre forward that has proven to be capable of scoring all kinds of goals in teams that set up in different ways, maybe just what a Bojan has been waiting to get a chance to play with Maybe look to recoup some from Imbula or Shaqiri to lighten the hit?

I think he has a bit more to offer than just heading a ball, though you could play him and Crouch and bring the goals against from set pieces down...

Seems like another potential Bony situation to me. May be worth a loan deal if Palarce want to continue paying some of his wages, but I wouldn't be pulling the trigger on a permanent deal without some evidence that he's still capable of delivering the good consistently. He's been utter dross the the best part of three seasons.

Of the trio of 'B's which represent the height of striking aspirations for all non 'Big 6' Premier League teams, Benteke, Bony and Berahino, I contend that Berahino would be the most fun to watch, his is a sublime talent compared to the muscle bound blunt instruments of Benteke and Bony, I'm not saying he would necessarily score the most goals but he would offer the highest enjoyment quotient!

By all accounts, media and TSpt, Palace are interested in swapping him for....Saido!?
Seems a strange one and must be completely made up surely? They just burnt £30m on him and he would suit Sam's style

They just burnt £30m on him and he would suit Sam's style Apparently this all stems from a training ground incident. Sam mistakenly abbreviated Christian's surname "Bent! Bent!, to which Christian replied "I'm fucking bent, you fat bastard?". Things haven't been the same since.

Should of made him our top target last summer and built a team around him, now we don't know what we are
'Some'suggested it at the time more than a few times....
But saido or bony were seen by far the better options ....

I'd have him over Berahino but I wouldn't have thought that Palace would want to offload him, especially to a rival in January. He's the kind of player that Allardyce would build a team around.

Absolutely. He's a first rate striker and we're fannying around chasing absolute wasters Could you answer the question as to why Benteke has gone quickly from club to club like a game of pass the parcel. Benteke had a terrific short period at the Villa but has failed miserably wherever else he has been. He is clearly a player to leave well alone!

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts".
Dead easy this football management malarkey, I wonder why a team that should be doing much better on paper are struggling so much when they have a £30m striker who they have smashed their wage structure for with a decent scoring record?
The Palace fans I know have questioned Benteke's effort and desire, can't imagine the rest of the team putting a shift in for a lot less reward are too happy about that....

Few interesing stats for C.B 136 appearences in premiership football for three different clubs and styles, 59 goals or in simple terms 1 goal in every 2.3 games. 9 goals in 30 appearences for belgium as good as 1 goal in 3. Aged 26 he has been good enough for 3 different clubs to part with a total of £71.5 million between them, two of them paying over £30 million. Not bad considering he 'didn't fit in' at liverpool. Nowhere near good enough

In my opinion, if you are going to take a chance like we were last summer and spend 22m on Berahino then I would say it is worth spending 30m on Benteke and getting a guarantee
If you look at the premier leagues top strikers, there are only really 5-6 that you would guarantee (bar injury and playing 1st team) of a return of 15 goals + per season. Those are Aguero, Zlatan, Costa, Kane, Lukaku and Benteke. I appreciate others dip in and out such as Sturridge, Vardy etc
What Benteke will bring is a guarantee of 15-20 goals per season when are current highest striker is on 2!!. If we went for Saido there is no guarantee and it could be 14m pissed up the wall. If he is available then go get him..........no brainer as they say

We sold Peter Thorne in 2001, the fact that we haven't had a proper goal scorer since, at any level we've played at is nothing short of a joke.

Benteke with the right influence and players around him will score goals. FFS he kept Villa in the Prem for about three seasons before they sold him
