According to a newspaper Swanseas next manager will have to work with a former economics journalist who has been hired as the Clubs "Moneyball" expert!!!! Dan Altman is now the transfer consultant for the club, who uses data analytics and statistics. Altman apparently wrote an analysis of England's Euro 2016 campaign that claimed "the team boasted a bevy of trigger-happy shooters but lacked a creative playmaker"!!!! He concluded "if England can produce Derren Brown why not the country's next great No 10" You couldn't make this shit up and people think we have problems with our transfer team

Its all quite amusing watching Swansea try to reinvent the wheel. They must be missing Laudrop 'Big-Style' by now...What a peculiar club, seemingly had everything going well then--POOF! MoneyBalls and Magicians..!

They should put their money in and leave the football side to football people.

It's worked well for all the Pozzo family owned clubs. I think it's too late for Swansea though, as I can't imagine they will be able to lure any quality players to the predicament they have got themselves into.

Swansea is essentially an experiment for their american owners, they want to bring in MLS players as well I read.
Be interesting to see how it works in the championship.

I know he's not Mr Popular on here, but they should have stuck with Monk.

It's all about money, as usual, though not the greed of players, on this occasion.
It' appears to be about the chairman wanting to stash it away while the going was good and without apparently even mentioning it to the 22% share ownership of the supporters' trust who had worked so hard throughout their rise from the bottom division.
Here is another who decided to cut and run, except that he, er, forgot to run and still enjoys the prime seat on the front row of the directors' box. Bet Messrs Jenkins and Everton's Kenwright have a few chuckles together.
We are fortunate to have half of the owners who are genuine, active and lifelong supporters of the club they run and actually put money into it., the other being Steve Gibson at Boro.

I wish this was happening to Cardiff instead. But one at a time I guess dunc I think the Redbirds have been through enough with that half-mast-trouser wearing Malaysian fucktard they have in charge. They're half or less of the club they used to be, and run into the ground. Rebranded and demoralized. Good work, Vincent Sri Tan.

This happens in big business a lot, older employees in senior positions getting sent out to pasture with made-up jobs in the hope they will either continue taking a salary instead of a big settlement or just retire. It's still not a good way of treating people, it slows down your operations and can also be a waste of talent.
Mendicant says: pay him off to leave and if he's good he'll succeed elsewhere.

don't see the problem. highly intelligent man brought in to use advanced data/stats analysis to HELP with transfers is surely a good thing. everybody instantly assumes they are stopping all eyes at the ground scouting by "real football people".

Fair enough but what "data analysis" do you think could have helped in deciding Imbulas transfer. Or Shaq, maybe something around the laws of gravity given his propensity to fall down
