Fair play to him if they're daft enough to pay
It's certainly one league I give 0 fucks about regardless of whose playing in it.

Mentioned in the Guardian that bonkers financial decisions (Oscar = 60M) precede a bust. Many of the recent countries going to the wall had examples of crazy purchases. We will see.

The Chinese. A great bunch of lads. India & then China were the dominant world economies for 1000's of years. In the late 1800's western economies led by America emerged as dominant due to technology. That technology has now been learned by China (& India) and it should not come as a surprise to anyone that China is once again emerging as dominant. 1.3 Billion potential fans vs England's 50 Million potential fans. If 5% of their population become fans, they outweigh England's entire population let alone football fans. I know where I'd be putting my development dollars if I was in TV. Interesting, I was just quoting Father Ted

I bet he can't wait for the glamour of an ACL qualifier against Dynamo Tashkent or Wellington Phoenix.

So you are going to boycott the big derby then So compact there every fixture is a derby I bet Beijing -Shanghai is pretty local by Chinese standards. Two rival cities...only 1200km apart. I have no problem with it. In fact, I hope it is a success and all the big players fuck off to China and Sky takes its TV coverage there instead of England. I would be more than happy for The Premier League to implode and we go back to 1980's type football...or earlier.

What simply cannot happen is that it hikes the wages over here. The fees and wages involved in Europe are already disgusting. Let China pay whatever they want. If players want to go then the money compensates them for not achieving anything worthwhile in their careers. Granted, sat on millions, would they give a fuck? Possibly no, but some might.
China can plough BILLIONS into the game and make it unbelievably attractive to players. What they can NEVER buy is the rich tapestry of history and culture that exists in Britain and Europe for football.
It's great to see the likes of Arnie plying their trade and it's brilliant to be in the most competitive league in he world. However, if I am honest I celebrated goals verses Grimsby and Chesterfield with just as much joy as the ones against any of the Prem teams since 2008!
Football is much more than money and ultimately if it gets worse and goes that way for the young pros to covet playing for Guangzhou or Shanghai then I hope it all breaks down.

I am presently reading the whole of Arnold Bennett's work (The Collected Works of Arnold Bennett - yours for a quid on Kindle - bargain of the century). Anyway, yesterday I read one of his short stories called "The Matador of the Five Towns" which centres on the Knype FC (Stoke City equivalent) full back named Jos Myatt. He was their star player and was paid £4 per week. Because this wasn't enough to live on, Knype FC put him in a pub in Toft End (Bennett's name for Sneyd Green) so he could supplement his wages as the landlord. He cycled to and from the match, and Bennett describes him laboriously doing his pub accounts and scraping shillings together. In the story, his wife dies in childbirth having had twins and he vows never to play football again. His friend then says that the Five Towns will never see first class football again.
Incidentally, there is a vivid description of a match against Manchester in which Myatt accidentally breaks an opponent's leg but doesn't get sent off!
The story was published in 1912, and is, of course, fiction. Nevertheless, Bennett must have been drawing on observation and experience. Just made me marvel how times have changed in just over 100 years.
