With Southgate watching on and that joke of a display by our captain he can kiss any lingering hope of an international career goodbye. Gouranga.

No need to even go back to the keeper. Was under no pressure.

When you can't pass a ball your international career is always going to be limited.
I'd also argue that his positioning from crosses has always beenhis weak point and that's before his injury.

International football should be the last thing on Ryan's mind. The lad's got a career to resurrect in the domestic game. I've still got faith he can get back.

He's never been good enough for International football, ever. He did have a small window when he was execptional. Then Zlatan.

Shawcross' whole game has been built on being fearless and ruthless. Put your body and head on the line at all times aka Huth.
When you lose this which he has since his back injury then you just become a slow pondering centre half with little else to offer.
He's also always been a poor captain, he's usually the first to drop his head when we concede instead of rallying the troops.
At the moment Indi is trying to cover the left back and Shawcross.

I'm more bothered by his Stoke career. I think his poor performances get ignored far too often because of how much of a solid, reliable player he had become. I think we're going to have to start thinking seriously about his role in the team soon.

Even though I want to think of Ryan as a potential player for the national side he hasn't been very close after his return. He has played a couple of good games, but hasn't been exceptional at all this season. Hopefully he'll pick up his game, but looked very uncomfortable today I must say!

I wouldn't pick him for our first team right now. Damn shame he was the best centre half of his generation. Hope he can be that again.

Great servant but he's not good enough on the ball plus now he's lost his defensive side of the game too.

He's never been good enough for International football, ever. 100% agree. 100% disagree, short memories from many. There have been fewer better English Centre Backs over the past 7 or 8 years. He's nowhere near England material now but don't forget what a colossus he's been for us since we've had him.

He's never been good enough for International football, ever. Harsh words. Said he'd be done after his back surgery. It's downhill from here folks, get used to it. Remember that sentimentality will only get you so far in football? We needed to start looking for a replacement in the summer.
