Bookies paid out on a 1-0 Stoke win. We won the match, we lost the 2 legged cup tie.

Either way 1959 was our last league victory.
Am I right in thinking it was a Division 2 game?

...is still the last time Stoke won at anfield I have a good feeling. This could be our time - in the league. Hold on and hit on the break like man city last season ( think it was last season -diouf scored)

How some try to belittle the win at Anfield by pointing out we lost the tie. as if we didn't know we lost the tie. Although we actually drew the tie.

If we had lost, the tie wouldn't have gone to penalties. but the penalties decided the match which means they won Extra time and penalties were needed to decide the tie because both teams won the away game 1-0.

If we had lost, the tie wouldn't have gone to penalties. but the penalties decided the match which means they won In 1974 we got a draw at the home of mighty Ajax. Ajax in 1974.... one of the greatest teams of the era containing several members of one of the most celebrated teams ever. Did any Stokie belittle this magnificent result by moaning we didn't get through the tie?

Either way 1959 was our last league victory. Am I right in thinking it was a Division 2 game? It was Gods. 20th March 1959 we won 4-3. Scorers were Asprey, Wilshaw(2) and White scored an own goal. We finished the season in 5th place, one place behind Liverpool. One "strange but true" story from that season was that we beat the Royal Moroccan Army 5-0 in a friendly.

Not only have we never won at Anfield in the top flight (including two defeats when it was Evertons ground),getting on for almost 70 visits, but we also have the worst record of any club in the country at any other clubs ground.

Did any Stokie belittle this magnificent result by moaning we didn't get through the tie? Another tie we could or should have won I believe. Slightly before my time (I was only 6 and my first game was 1975). The irony that we won in 90 minutes at Anfield and it counted for nothing is something which still annoys me, as does the fact that it was a nightmare to actually get in the ground that night (of all places!). I'm quite bitter about a lot on reflection.
