I have been a long time reader of the oatcake and relatively short time poster but the time has come for me to stop participating completely from this MB.
The reason ? The absolute ludicrous views of so called supporters is slowly eating away at my love for the club. I should know better than to let other people's views affect my own but lately every time I come to the oatcake I feel like our support base is turning into everything we once hated, every time we fail to win this place becomes venomous and hate filled toward our manager, our chairman and whatever player hasn't produced a man of the match performance on the day and right now the world is a hateful place without it over spilling into the thing I love most outside of my family and friends and I no longer want it to tarnish my love for the club. This has been the case for the majority of the season but this latest 24 hours it's become intolerable.
I'm no happy clapper and was furious and I am still desperately disappointed by the 2nd half performance and what transpired however the sheer amount of posts that have come up calling for the managers head or slating some of our players is beyond belief and it feels like the majority of posters are now just like the Arsenal fans we hate with such passion.
As I post we are 11th in the league and 3 points of 7th place after 3 successive 9th place finishes in what I believe is the most competitive league in the world our best run of finishes in our history. Despite us all wanting to push on to the supposed 'next level' anyone who thinks we are going to compete for a top six place is in dream land, we are no where near in a position to challenge Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Citeh, Liverpool or Spurs for those positions and yes before anyone mentions Leicester history shows us that every now and then a freak season happens and a team will have a good year and break in but as Leicester are doing this year they soon return to their most likely finishing position ask yourself the question how many clubs have finished in a European qualification spot other than those mentioned ? And you will find it's not many.
So where does this leave us ? Realistically we are in that second group of clubs who are competing for 7th place along with Everton, West Brom, Southampton, West Ham etc well established clubs who on their day can beat anyone but are more likely to be inconsistent throughout the year. Unfortunately I feel like I am in a minority who hold this realistic view despite our only success being a cup win in the second rate cup competition in the country some 45 years ago, some seem to think we belong and deserve to be in the top 6 and demand and crave success and anything less is a failure on the managers and squad behalf despite the fact that only ten years ago we all dreamt of just one season in this league. I'm not one to go about the last eight years of course we have done well and of course we want to continue improving but how many clubs have done more than us in consistently improving over those same years ? There is only 1 club I can think of who have done more who have improved in consistent seasons and that's Spurs who despite their failure to win the title last year have become a contender for the title or at least champions league football every year without major investment from a billionaire owner and this is not come over night they have steadily improved over 15-20 years of premiership football to be where they are now and this is the model we now need to follow. Anyone who thinks the club will sack our manger whilst still in both cup competitions and 3 points of 7th place after our worst start to a season in some time really have no clue about who we are as a club and what our chairman is trying to achieve.
Anyway I've rattled on for far too long I will miss the genuine decent posters of the forum many who we have lost already. Please before you post I urge you to think of where we are, where we have come from and where we need to get to before urging the club to dispose of a manager that has already achieved more than what most could have done with the tools at his disposal and I also urge you to look up what a "supporter" or a "fan" of a club means.
Merry Xmas, Peace Out!! ✌️️

Miggo, I echo your views 100%, but don't let the bastards get you down.
Message boards, or call them what you want, are there to see polar opposites go head to head. Usually, however, the extremists, or populists, who have the negative view, have a louder voice as they group together and shout down those with a more balanced outlook.
Stay strong, and post what the hell you want.

Isn't this just a boring, long-winded 'look at me' post? The summary of which seems to be that anyone who shares your opinion on things is a true supporter, anyone who holds a different opinion is not.
The 'delete account' option is in your profile settings. Traaa.

This is a message board where people can discuss their opinions on Stoke City, the manager, players, anything football related. If stuff like that upsets you to the point where you feel you have to leave then this probably wasn't the right place for you in the first place. Bye! Have a nice christmas.

There are, I suppose more supporters who don't feel the need to use the oatcake than do so, you're not alone All the best and merry Christmas Unfortunately for me I can't manage to leave, no matter how many times I've tried ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/3zptH1h3SvRnVmRGLyMP.gif)

A lot of what he says is SPOT ON.
I constantly say to my self "don't get involved" , "don't log on and post". There will always be some wise guy idiot out there waiting to shoot you down for expressing an opinion or attempting to promote an intelligent debate.
However if you learn to ignore them, and select what you read, and take in the many pearls of wisdom and at times genuine whit, the Oatcake Can be informative and rewarding.

It's a weird world some want to create when they can't accept other people have the right to express different opinions. If they don't like your opinion, let 'em shout. Nobody should be put off from expressing their opinion on here. Mine is that Hughes has put together an unbalanced squad, has shown himself to be fairly useless in the transfer market (with a few exceptions), doesn't have a clue on his best eleven and most of his football is boring. He'll probably keep us up because the bottom half of this league is not a great deal better than Championship level.
