Yes, I'd always have one player on the half way line v 11 men. Not to have someone there v 10 men makes no sense at all. I do wish that Nigel Johnston would ask the manager to comment on things like this in his post match interviews. I know it is an over worked phrase but "its not rocket science" is it? This is basic Sunday League, schoolboy stuff isn't it. Stick the nippy kid on the half way line to force the opposition into having to think defensively when in an attacking opportunity. Keep one on the halfway line they have to keep two back to watch him.

I have also seen teams leave three players up...one on each wing,one down the middle... So if the ball is hoofed out of defence blindly and goes left,right or middle,they will have a player challenging for the ball...also they would have to leave four defenders back.....some manager thinking outside the box.I have never seen another manager dither over when to use his substitutes like Hughes does,he is costing us points by being inept tactically....
