I must admit after the Palace game I was worried that we'd be playing Villa on a cold and windy Friday night Since then we've been very solid and our form has been great. Since that game it's been like a switch was flicked, but what changed? I don't buy that we were playing the easy teams and we now look hard to beat. I don't think it was down to fitness either. I'm no manager or coach but for me a big part of the improvement is down to Grant and BMI. Any other observations? Long may it continue

It's entirely down to the doom mongers on here.
The lads read the doom laden shite written day after day by some of our messageboard finest and it inspired them to up their game. It always works.
By the way where's Benji tonight?

I think there's a number of factors
- Awful run of fixtures at start. Easier fixtures since. - Confidence. - Poor pre season meant a slow start. - Better referees as the seasons gone by. - Lee Grant. - New signings Indi and Allen settling in. Shaq returning from injury. - A change of tactics with Cameron and Whelan making us more solid initially and stopping the rot.

Euros etc saw to that. There was a load of media fluff following the Palace debacle. Danny Murphy reassured me. We'd ran at the season intent on attack. We got exposed and found out. Hughes has sorted it.. Found a better balance. Looking forward to seeing what he can achieve from this bedrock. Go on.

Simple, Hughes got grant, he has gained the trust of the squad, meaning players are playing how the should be doing instead of panicking when the opposition are near our goal, we have outlets when we break now.

1- Easier games 2- Dropped Imbula and gave him the kick up the arse he needed, he's been good since 3- Grant in goal has saved us a few times where Given and Jakob would have failed

By the way where's Benji tonight? Here I am , long journey but delightful result , Very very important win given the next three away games , anything over 20 will be a decent half way return given the start . Manager deserves credit fir the meroticrsvy of sticking by last weeks players , for me I thought Bmi , Diouf and imbula were the stand outs but BMi especially given the physicality of the opposition .

I must say Grant has been excellent! Yes, and he seems to be the only common thread, over simplistic? We won with/without Imbula We won with/without Shaq Allen has played in most games BMI has played in most games Only winning easier games, not so sure, Palace & Middlesboro. Drew with MU, unlucky not to beat WBA. Beat Swansea handy, they've done Palace, beat Sunderland, they've had some good wins. The players do seem to trust and respect Hughes.

Everything really boils down to Hughes, who clearly saw there was a problem, and instead of sticking with the same thing every week like some managers do, wasn't afraid to shake it up. He dropped his own record signing, this week he wasn't afraid to tell one of our star performers this season (Allen) that he hadn't made the team.
These are decisions that show the same sort of steely courage Hughes displayed as a player.
That's why we turned around...because the manager was prepared to admit we needed changes.

Because give or take the off game over the course of the season we will win one, lose one draw one. In no specific order

Simple, Hughes got grant, he has gained the trust of the squad, meaning players are playing how the should be doing instead of panicking when the opposition are near our goal, we have outlets when we break now. That to me is the main reason for the upturn in form along with more players available meaning if you want to play next week play well this week

Because we're a decent Premier League team with a very good Premier League manager who would have been working on our issues in the background whilst some on here pissed their pants....

I no particular order:
The combination of Grant and Martins Indi turning a nervous, leaky defence into a solid, confident defence.
Hughes having the guts to drop (his own) big name/big money players, the tactical nous to change the shape and personnel of the team and the good sense to pick and stick with players delivering on the pitch.
But then we should of got rid of that sort of madness back in September.
Oh and fair enough - easier opposition....

Long may it continue Would I like to be playing Man City and Chelsea every week or Hull and Swansea? Not a difficult question really. Go back through any club's history as regards fixtures and results and I think each fan will find some memorable results against the perceived best teams and also some terrible and undesired results against the perceived poorer teams. All fans are pleased with expectation and hope. Looking at our results so far I would say that results have followed this pattern. Our poor results against teams our fans expected to win will all be forgotten should we get a result next week at Arsenal. As a team we have now accrued nineteen points which we have got to be really pleased with considering our injuries. It is no good saying look where would be if we hadn't messed up against West Brom and Bournemouth because many would also have expected us to maybe lose at Man United. We have just run through a period of fixtures where most people expected us to gain maximum points and now we have a series of more difficult fixtures. Personally, I will remain comfortable as long as we continue to average just above one point per game as the season progresses. We have gained more points recently because we have played poorer teams and long may that continue. Next week I hope we can gain one of our shock successes!

For me its very simple. We were always a very decent side being hampered by a goalkeeper who didn't know how to make a save.
There was no panic at all from me, even after palace. I posted after that game that we'd be top half of table by 5pm on 3rd December.

Played teams who finished below us last season, the next set of fixtures will say how good we are or just the same as last season.
