Not so crafty cockney, more of a cocky crackpot cockney. Miserable git too. I once shouted "180" to him outside Victoria ground and he wasn't happy, made him jump though!

He has expressed some opinions that are pretty crass but was that really enough for Sky to sack him? It seems that no one is allowed to air their opinions these days without being vilified. Can't people just ignore him or, even better, try to engage with him in an attempt to educate him a little. I see some bloke has reported him to Staffs police for a hate crime for his use of the word 'poof'. It all seems a bit over the top to me.

Sadly that's what happens when folk allow their mouth work when not connected to what morsel of brain they have.

The idea that people should go kick the heads in of the people who abused him isn't a bad idea itself, it's 2 other things he said.
The first being that paedos are the same as gays (or as he calls them poofs). This is clearly absurd and shows he hasn't paid attention to all the good work gone on to stamp out homophobia
The other being that he thinks victims of abuse aren't real men. Again this is absurd and will stop people from coming out as victims.

Eric Bristow's comments aren't just 'politically incorrect', they're utterly abhorrent and vile. His 'opinion' is disgusting.

As I said earlier, he said stuff that were dodgy but I agree with some others that anything he said is simply his own view and that just because the majority don't like it he shouldn't be sacked. Free speech stifled again. Still think he's a big headed git.

whoh! ERIC BRISTOW, spokesman for a generation, said that!?!? quick, burn him before our entire society collapses around us! who would have thought he had opinions stuck in the 70's ? i'm shocked.
i personally won't be happy until everyone with a controversial or stupid opinion is purged from our TV screens then we can all sit around the TV and watch alan shearer 24/7.

We live in an age where people are more 'outraged' & 'disgusted' by Bristow's words, than that dirty fucking paedo coaches actual actions.
Mind you, we're seeing this more & more nowadays. People more 'outraged' over comments made about paedo gangs in industrial towns, rather than the actual actions of said gangs. People more 'outraged' over some election hopefuls words which hurt some peoples feelings, than another election hopefuls actual actions which lead to the deaths of thousands of people etc...
Race to the fucking bottom in the victimhood stakes.

Bristow's comments are the words of a prick. Whether he had to be sacked is a matter for Sky, who have decided he should go.
It's not a clamp down on freedom of speech to sack someone for being a prick. It's common sense.

Alan shearer 24/7 is better than a homophobe he did actually clarify, in his own Bristowian way that "i meant peado not poof". by all means challenge his views, but lets not attack him for having an opinion that differs from yours, isn't that what living in a country that values free speech supposed to stand for ? allowing the unsayable to be said ? I'm a free speech fundamentalist and whilst he might not have been being arrested for it, this outrage and hysteria that has been generated could have the same chilling effect on peoples free speech, people start to self censor in fear of a twitter mob lynching, it can be every bit as damaging as the state coming down on someone for something they said.

also lets not forget he is a former darts player...... a former darts player! he's basically just the bloke down the pub, his only crime is that he didn't keep his opinion to himself, if he hadn't written it on twitter he'd have said it in the boozer no doubt, like millions of others do, should they be shamed and sacked from their jobs as well ?

What people have to remember is nowadays writing stuff on social media is the same as publishing an article in the paper was in the past. Just like with the papers everyone can read it and have an opinion on it, and just like with the papers an ill judged article can bring you down. That's the way this world is now especially if you're famous and people just have to accept it.
If you've got an opinion you wouldn't allow to be printed in a newspaper don't put it on social media.

I remember throwing him out of a pub back in the day.
He said 'don't you know who I am?'.
I said to him that yes I did know who he was and promptly chucked him out.
He was a dick then, and it appears he has remained the same ever since.

I think he just needs to learn to keep out of issues that are above his level of understanding.
There is no way Sky can be seen to associate itself with his views , therefore his sacking was obvious and I would be shocked if making statements likely to cause offence was not written to all peoples contracts who work in the public eye and who at all times are deemed to represent their values.
I bet he thinks twice before opening his gob again.
