With Super Joe suspended and Whelan and Cameron injured will Gianelli get his chance?

I hope he plays, saw him warming up at half time and he had that many layers on today, he looked like the Michelin man

It all depends on the fitness of Geoff and Glen. If they're both still out I'd go with
..Adam....Imbul..
......Shaq.......
Arni........Sobhi
If Whelan's fit I'd go with a false 9
...Adam.....Whelan.....Imbula...
..Shaq.......Arni........Sobhi..
I thought Bony's efforts today were woeful and he needs a wake up call.

Should've come on at half time but Hughes thought otherwise.

I look foward to jim driving the ball forward only to run into the opposition. Over. And over again. In all seriousness though he needs ro show what he's learned from his time away from starting.

If Whelan and Cameron are still out through injury then there aren't many other options but if he was anywhere near playing himself back into the first team hw would surely have come on for the woeful Adam today.

Get him in. If he wants to play for the club he'll put in a performance, and if he doesn't he'll want to shine in front of the cameras.....

Have we finally found a replacement for Wilson Palacios?

If he does get in the squad you would hope to see a different attitude He has sat on the bench for the last three matches. MH would not pick him as a sub unless he was prepared to use him in the right circumstances.

Do you not think that Mr. Coates would be rather unhappy at this one? Our costliest player ever, not playing. Something amiss here methinks!

The last time I saw Imbula play was for the Under 23's against Bury. At that time I was pretty shocked because he looked half the man that arrived at the club and it was pretty obvious that he found it difficult to cope with the cold weather. Imbula when he first arrived showed why he was valued highly. I do not think that many fans have been very patient! I have been disappointed with his progress and I also have lost confidence in him but I still have hope that eventually he will settle and become acclimatised. I certainly won't be ridiculing him as he is a Stoke player. This weekend I am hoping that at least one of Cameron and Whelan will be fit. If not I believe Hughes needs to take chances and a player like Muniesa should be used to come in and do a job as a midfield sweeper. I am not impressed with Adam in the deeper midfield role. I would play Charlie in the forward midfield role and put Bojan on the bench. Should Cameron and Whelan both be unfit then Lecygne should be given an opportunity.

If both Geoff and Glenn are unfit, we have to play at least one with an idea that part of the job in there is to defend. That simply is not Gilbert. I would hope we are working in training with Muniesa this week to give him some grounding in the role to start there at the weekend in an emergency. I would be tempted to play Gilbert and Adam in a midfield three with him, and move Bojan up front instead of the pedestrian Wilf. Gilbert's running with the ball from deep could prove useful away from home, whilst the false nine may just work as a surprise tactic, especially if Arnie and Shaq can play higher and cut in as inverted wingers.

Muniesa, Imbula and Adam as our midfield three makes me feel a bit queasy mate. Didn't Whelan almost make the bench at the weekend? If so, surely he'll be available. You might be right about the false 9 tactic though as at least we could shore up the midfield with Imbula and Adam as neither are going to put the right sort of shift on their own with Whelan. For once you may have something

"But boss Mark Hughes will be taking a close look at the burly midfielder in training this week to assess if he's ready mentally and physically to start at Vicarage Road if required."
So Spinks is now reporting that the manager is going to assess him both mentally and physically, has Spinks actually reported that there has been a specific issue with Imbula either mentally or physically previously?

I imagine it must be a gauntlet of continuous tackles with Shawcross, Bardsley and Whelan yelling abuse at his face pushing him around. That should make him Stoke tough.
