What are your thoughts on the Wheel, Air Travel, Radio and the internal combustion engine? All great but fuck all to do with football,Stokes lights are well within the Prem and TV companies rules for evening matchs and the requirements of HD TV viewing. I think it's more a case of where high definition broadcasting is going to next. HD alone has more than tripled fps from several years ago while you've got technology like Quantum Dot and 4K now landing on the market. Everyone from the Premier League and European clubs to the US Superbowl are taking steps to switch to LED lighting so it's not like we're doing this randomly. If broadcasters are involved then it'll happen given the revenue they pump into football. For better or worse TV, broadcasting, advertising etc. is everything to do with football these days. luxreview.com/article/2015/02/leds-ready-for-kick-off-luxreview.com/article/2015/05/hull-city-fc-converts-stadium-to-led-floodlighting

Anybody who doesn't think this will be nothing short of a half-arsed effort are seriously mistaken. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's not open come next season kick-off and we will ask for our first three fixtures to be played away. If I recall correctly, we got our public safety license for the Brit 3 hrs before kick off of the first game. I was in the Waddington suite that night and at 6:45pm they still had blokes in putting carpets down.

It seems daft that they would move the screen to another vacant corner where it too will need to be moved when it's time for that corner to be converted to something that spectators could use. Technology is reducing in price now . They could probably have fitted a series of smaller screens under the stand ceilings. Alternatively , given the prevalence of mobile technology why not assume 90% of spectators will be carrying their own screen(or sit next to someone who does). Why not stream the big screen content to phones via free wfi. Create a neat little app, charge a one off fee of £5 and slam a major sponsor for the advertising rights.

Unfortunately comments like " should we ever go down the route of installing LED floodlighting," shows how slow moving the club in in respect of ground facilities . Middlesbrough installed LED lighting in the summer as part of their ground improvements following promotion. It also indicates that the club do not have a definitive improvement plan. Most proper businesses have at least a 5 year plan; Japanese businesses have 10 year plans. I'm sure they did something with the floodlights a couple of seasons ago so they'll probably wait until the end of life on those before upgrading.

I'd imagine we'd struggle to get the bandwidth to stream to that many devices simultaneously. Probably something achievable in a few years.

Whatever is done will be done on the cheap.
The ground was designed using Boro's used plans which were then hacked apart to reduce costs further. This was understandable given our parlous financial state at the time.
However, since then, apart from the odd lick of paint and a second hand big telly, bugger all has been spent to benefit the comfort and convenience of supporters.

Can the new location be seen from the back of the JSU as the barrier at the end of the stand is not see-through? I presume the new padded seats there with integral heating will be kitted out with a personalised high definition hologram display!

Not sure I'm overly fussed about the screen, I can live without basic sporadic highlights, scrolling teamsheets and the 1/2 time ad for Staffs Uni.

The current plan is for there to be 2 screens hanging form the roof of both the Boothen and away ends. Last I heard was that they were just making sure the roof was strong enough.

The current plan is for there to be 2 screens hanging form the roof of both the Boothen and away ends. Last I heard was that they were just making sure the roof was strong enough. From the update on the official site the screen in the south east corner will be on the roof itself while the one in the north west corner by the Boothen End will sit on the roof of the new media studio they're building (rather than on the actual Boothen End roof). ( "We plan to build a media control facility in the North West corner which will cover off the pitch MC and DJ element of our entertainment, control of the LED advertising boards and control of the two new LED screens - one of which will be suspended from the roof in the South East corner and the other in the north west corner on top of the new building") Also, here's a screenshot from the original planning blueprints that did the rounds on the internet a few years ago. It shows how the disabled sections will probably look in the new north east and south east corners. It extends the back of the stand but not by too much. In the north east corner it looks like it'll just overlap the top of Delilahs ( "The planning permission that we now have been granted is related to that with provision of high level disabled bays in the North East corner of the stadium, which will mirror what will be in the South East corner which we already had permission for")

Presumably this means there is no intention to ever fill in the north west corner with seating.

Presumably this means there is no intention to ever fill in the north west corner with seating. If they ever did they'd have to find another location for what's classed below as the TV compound (where all the vehicles, broadcast equipment, satellite dishes etc. sets up shop). There's also the first aid and ambulance zones and what looks like a generator. There's quite a lot going on in that corner even though it looks empty. Stick a media centre and a screen in there and there's even more activity. They could move this to the car park but that'd go against the extra car parking demand they'd probably have with another xxx thousand seats. It's a catch 22. Personally I think this latest development will be it unless something drastic happens and ticket demand goes through the roof. Middlesbrough did fill in their main stand corners in 1996 but they were empty spaces, not like us with office blocks, shops, ticket office, dressing rooms, tunnels, TV zones etc.

Thanks for that lagwafis.
It looks like a 30,000 seater stadium, post next summer. Hopefully the club owners will continue to improve quality and value for money, if they are unable to increase quantity.
Good to see they are catering more and better for disabled. If the ground is limited to 30,000, than there seems little point in investing in improving access and egress to and from the stadium.
