The craven Welsh FA will bow to FIFA's ruling in their match against Serbia and not wear the poppy. I thought they were made of sterner stuff
Shame on them

Wonder what action FIFA took to that if any? Pretty certain that the Argentinian FA were fined for this, as no doubt the English/Scottish FA will IF they don a poppy tonight....but please, whatever the Welsh FA reasoning over the poppy or lack of, lets not have another anti Welsh thread especially on armistice day. We remember those who died in all the wars, wether English/Scot/Welsh or any of the other countries who fought. Without their ultimate sacrifice, where would be now?

I think most people can see it's not the Welsh nation but a few disrespectful cowards at the Welsh FA.

No hostility at all, the rule is there, and it isn't like we aren't allowed to show our thanks and remember the sacrifice, we simply can't put a poppy on the shirt.
I'm sure Wales and both England and Scotland will be doing far more than putting poppy's on shirts tonight before each game. I'll watch on myself, donning the poppy myself, remembering every single one of them fell for us all.
No point throwing insults on today of all days, we're all 1 today.

Shame on all of us. If we are going to get a fine or points deduction then why are we faffing about with arm bands?
Just put it on the shirt, break the 'rules' and take the punishment.

utterly manufactured tabloid outrage - if this starts happening every year it will diminish one of the few symbols that acutally mean something to society

Why shame?
This fucks me off.
There is no shame and the thought that there would be would have the blokes that died fighting for our freedom and our ability to think for ourselves and think freely turning in their graves.
Shame my arse.

Shame my arse. Exactly. I don't often agree with you but you're bang on. This faux tabloid induced outrage is akin to poppy nazism. Why can't the FA cough up part of their illgotten gains to the Royal British Legion and scrap this publicity stunt. I always wear a poppy but that's my choice I could just as easily donate and not take a poppy. It shouldn't matter, it's what's in your heart that matters.

Not sure why everyone is getting their knickers in such a twist - this is no great footballing tradition we're being denied here. 2007/8 season is when poppies first appeared on football shirts - a full ninety years after the end of WW1 - 10 years ago this jhst wouldn't have been a conversation.
So English footbsll caught up with what every other fucker had been doing for the best part of a century and now the're all upset because someone has told them to take a day off. Dear me, how sad, never mind. .
And for the record - yes I do choose to wear one.

I hope fans don't sing the German Bombers song. Has no place at any football match IMO.

Shame my arse. In one respect you are bang on. In the other respect you aren't because a lot of people are missing a big point here. If the normal man on the street wants to do it or not - their choice. That is the freedom that the veterans fought for. Spot on. The problem here is a huge organisation that so clearly and openly wants to honour it but not at the cost of money or points. That can't be right surely? If you want to honour it, then do it properly - slap on a poppy in the middle of the shirt and hand over the cash and/or the points. Why put money and points in the way of your principles if that is what you want to do, rather than try to do it with a half job armband, where you may end up incurring the same fines anyway?

Rule 4So the Poppy is an Image and as to the reasons as why it is worn differs with the individual. Personally I thought it was about the pointless and massive loss of life during the Great War or World War I as it became known. The PoppyI wouldn't be bothered if England had a 30 points deduction. Missing the Russia World Cup will be no great loss

I thought they were made of sterner stuff Shame on them You clearly can't read, they're wearing a plain black armband and are having the fans make a mosaic, no doubt there will be a minutes silence and some form of ceremony before kickoff. Also, you clearly don't understand what the poppy stands for, they will remember them just as we will.

They are allowed to make that choice. This idea that they should be ashamed for not wearing one is surely not the point of why they are worn in the first place
